I started fostering dogs in grad school, where I was an active member of the local APL and formed an advocacy group to create and sustain the local dog park (an abandoned baseball field that we turned into a puppy paradise). On my foster journey, I quickly became the cliche and officially adopted my dog of 14 years, Rufio, after only a few hours. I found Ruf--a Rottweiler/shepherd mix--wandering down by the river, and we were best buds by dinnertime. Over the years, I continued to foster dogs and Ruf and I loved sharing our home with a revolving cast of characters. Sadly, Rufio passed away this past year, but the love is still there, and my partner, Hannah, and I are thrilled to fill our days with doggos.
