I am self-employed and can generally be available without having to rearrange other priorities. We don´t have kids, so we´re a flexible household. I bike around to make the drop in or dog walk eco-friendly too.

A lot of animals have their own quirks, and there isn´t a one-size-fits-all answer for esp. dogs who fear being alone or "abandoned". I follow owner´s guidance closely but am also good at reading the room. When I see dog walkers staring down at their phones, I always think it´s such a missed opportunity, even if it´s not your own dog! With drop ins I always stay the full time (unless there are agreed upon reasons not to), often I stay longer and take plenty of pictures to document us having a good time. That tends to be easy to achieve!

It’s important to talk about quirks, likes, and dislikes beforehand. What’s a favorite toy or game? Does the pet get anxious when left alone or try to escape when you arrive? Rover is great for communicating with owners, so just pop me a message if something comes to mind.
A typical day
There is no typical day, or I try to avoid typical days unless i.e. the dog just HAS to go a certain route to mark off its territory. A good pet sitter might want to improvise, if the "play all day" plan doesn´t work out. Dogs can be very unwilling to go out in the rain, and then you need a plan B. For cats, having done this a while, you develop a sense of what cats want to play with. Cardboard seems to be esp. popular these days, so I have spent countless hours setting up cardboard boxes and building cardboard tunnels. One cat was obsessed about these little bouncy springs 2 x a day for 10 days! In that case I varied other things, but always brought out the springs!

Pet care experience
I grew up in the countryside. My extended family were all dog owners: Labradors, Great Danes and Afghan Hounds. We also had 4 cats and 4 Icelandic horses. As an adult I have taken care of friends´ dogs and cats during college. As a pro I always offer a Meet & Greet, so that dogs will recognise my scent and so that cats don't hide upstairs during a drop in. For unknown reasons I am wildly popular with pets, hence this service offer!
