Pet care experience
SAHS volunteer & animal lover!
Growing up in the Hill Country, my family always had at least 4 pets at any given time. Usually no less than three dogs. I also volunteer at the San Antonio Humane Society when I can! Now, living in the city I don't have a dog of my own and am missing having a furry friend! This is not just a side gig for me but a way to be able to enjoy the company of my favorite furry friends!

Thom always does an awesome job caring for our two cats and our dog! he is very detailed and always makes sure that they are getting what they need
Thomas has taken great care of our retriever several times! When we travel and need to board our dog, I never have to worry about how he’s doing while he’s with Thomas, and he’s always excited to see him again! Plus Thomas backyard is an awesome size for our larger energetic dog to run around freely!
Thomas Avery demonstrates remarkable responsibility and genuine kindness in his work. He’s lived with animals from his first night in the crib. Dogs are perceptive enough to sense this and respond beautifully to Thom’s attentions. I’ve always trusted him with our pets and he never disappoints. He is my go-to for minding my boy Bullet even now.
Thomas is an amazing pet sitter and a genuine kind-hearted animal lover! He has watched my dog (my baby, my child), Mozzarella, before and I’m so happy he’ll be caring for her again. He treated her like his own and gave her so much love and attention. I genuinely trust him with Mozzarella more than I trust most of my own family! He’s been a longtime friend and is someone I know I can always count on to take excellent care of my girl. Any pet would be lucky to have Thomas, whether it’s just for a walk (he painstakingly walked her at her .2 mph pace) or boarding (she even threw a tantrum), he truly is one of a kind!

Schedule
I'm currently in between work so I can dedicate my full schede to watching over your pets. Ideally, I'd like to find remote work so I can still look over your pets.

Home characteristics
Safety, trust & environment
First and foremost I give lots of love and attention! I have and do volunteer for SAHS and agree with most if not all of their policies on dog care. This means no use of fear, pain, hitting, or similar corrective actions. These behaviors have shown to suppress behavior without actually teaching the dog what you want and can create anxiety and even aggression. Dogs and cats have been a part of my life since I was a baby so I'm pretty familiar with their body language and try to be mindful of their needs. I consider them part of the family and usually treat them as such by ensuring they have a comfortable and pleasant environment. I think establishing a "safe place" for your pets to retreat to when they are feeling anxious is a great way to build strong bonds. My mom's dog, bullet, has one of the worst cases of ADHD I've seen in a dog and when he's feeling overwhelmed by too many guests in the house or strange weather, he likes to disappear deep into my mom's walk in closet.
A typical day
I'm, of course, happy to accommodate to your specific needs, but I try to take the dogs for a walk first thing in the morning. In the Texas summers, that's really the only option. If it's not to hot I also like to spend at least 15-30 minutes playing in the back yard.
