I currently work part time with my horses 10 minutes away. My husband has early onset dementia and now lives in assisted living. I have a 19 year old son who attends UCLA and will be home for the summer. We both love to hike and have trails right behind our 2 acre property. I am home a lot during the day (and night) and would love to play, walk and snuggle with your dog!

Safety, trust & environment
Our 2 acre yard is completely fenced. We have had dogs safely secured for years. Our animals are family, and they generally have run of the house. Our cat likes to sleep on the beds, but we tend to let the dogs sleep on the dog bed, floor or couch of their choosing. There are no stairs to get out to the yard, so it is easy access for an older dog. I gave away all of Winnie's dog toys when she passed away so you would need to bring some for your dog during your stay. But we would not have to worry about any doggie arguments! My home is a non-smoking household. I am able to administer medications such as pills, eye ointments, IM and subQ injections, etc. I also have training in T-touch and Positive Reinforcement training.

Information Terry & Shepherd L. would like to know about your pet
Please let me know if your dog has any special needs or preferences! I am happy to accommodate if possible. Also if there are any behaviors we should be aware of (afraid of thunder, jumping on people, counter surfing...). Also, since i have a cat, she needs to be safe in her home, so if your dog does not cohabitate with well with cats, this might not be the best fit. I do require a "meet and greet" visit prior to dog sitting so we can ascertain fit.
A typical day
We play indoors and out, go for walks. I am happy to do some basic foundation work with positive reinforcement training (which they LOVE), hang out in the yard.

Pet care experience
I have cared for all sorts of animals from Raccoons to horses over the past 50 years. I have run my own horse farm and had dogs and cats along the way. I know the signs of distress, can handle emergencies, administer medications and enjoy being with and caring for animals. I have nursed our older fur-babies and understand the needs of seniors. We also understand and work with positive reinforcement training with our animals, which they find very fun to engage with. Several years ago, we lost our large (great pyrenees cross) at nearly 17 years old! Our other dog, Winnie, recently passed away and I miss her company, as my kids are grown and my "baby" is off at college. and I thought Rover might be a way to be a win-win. I sold our horse farm about 7 years ago, and our remaining horses live at a stable nearby. I do have one house cat that lives with me. We live on 2 fenced in acres which back up to the Magruder Branch Trail. Along with walks along the street, we can also take your dog on the trail for lots of sniffs and sounds. We will feed and medicate them as requested. My husband is retired, I am semi retired and my oldest son has graduated, so someone is almost always in the house to let your dog in and out, play and walk as needed. To ensure the safety and compatibility of our pets and yours, we require a "meet and greet" prior to agreeing to host your dog. I am unable to accommodate dogs who are not house trained or who are aggressive or destructive.
Reviews
I have known Terry for over 20 years. She is a compassionate animal lover who takes excellent care of anything furry. All our dogs over the years have spent time in her yard and loved every minute of it. Terry creates a warm and caring environment for all four-legged friends.

I have known Terry for more than 10 years. We spend time together at the same farm where there are horses, dogs, cats, and chickens, and we've become friends. I've witnessed Terry showing utmost attention and affection to the animals under her care and she appreciates and enjoys the unique personalities of every animal she meets. She is very calm and loving, with a big heart. I've always been able to count on Terry to show up when she says she'll show up, and animals feel very safe around her.
