I've spent my life raising large breeds, and the dogs that have shaped me most weren't the easy ones. I know from personal experience the anxiety that comes with finding a trusted person to take care of and understand the needs of a strong and reactive dog. My Cane Corso (147 lbs) was reactive — dogs, bicycles, scooters, you name it — and together we developed what I call defensive walking: staying proactive, reading the environment ahead, and keeping situations calm before they escalate. I know how to manage powerful dogs on a leash and how to advocate for reactive dogs in the real world. My Rottweiler had seizures, which means I'm also experienced in recognizing and responding to seizure episodes and comfortable administering medication on a schedule or in an emergency. I don't panic — I've been there.
