Pet care experience

Cesar Millan is my idol!

I've been working with dogs since childhood - my parents raised Pekingese & Dobermans. Even at 8 years old, I helped mama dogs birth their pups. My schoolmates thought it was gross, most adults thought it was weird, but I thought it was super cool to be a part of bringing life into the world through adorable little squeaking pups. Even though we were very ethical & loving with our pups, many backyard breeders are not, so I no longer agree with that. But as an adult, I fell in love with rescues & adopted a few over the years. Then I decided I wanted to be more involved with Rescues. So... I became a Foster Parent, assisted Black Dog Rescue, & was an integral part of Cooper's Companions Animal Rescue in Colorado before moving to NC. I usually ended up fostering unadoptable dogs & working with them extensively until they became adoptable. Then followed up with their new pet parents to help ensure success & making it stick. My specialty is working with fearful dogs, teaching pet owners how to get the behavior they want from their pet, leash training, & training dogs to walk on a treadmill. We have 2 little dogs who had a big 'sister' for many years, so all size dogs are welcome; Both of our pups are super dog-friendly. One of them loves to play with other dogs, and the other will play sometimes, but can be a bit of a snob. We want all dogs to enjoy staying with us, but... we won't tolerate a 'truly' aggressive dog in our home. My dogs don't attack other dogs, so should either of my dogs be attacked or if a human is bitten, the offender will be separated & crated inside, or placed in our separately fenced kennel area outside (only if you prefer) for the remainder of their stay. Any issues will be discussed with the dog owner to establish their preference in this regard. Otherwise, we'll shower your fur baby with love & attention so you won't have to worry about them when you're away. Please note: ***We will only board dogs which are spayed or neutered.*** If they are not spayed/neutered, we will be happy to do drop in or house-sitting care, but we will not be able to host in our own home.

Tara and Kevin are great with our dog Brandy. She is so comfortable spending time with them and their two pups. We are confident in leaving her for long vacations and know that she has lots of snuggle time with them in a clean safe environment. As an added bonus, Brandy listens better to us when she returns from their home!

Tara takes great care of Brandy and sends pictures and/or videos that keeps us in touch with our pup. Brandy always looks so comfortable with Tara and Kevin, and their two dogs get along well with Brandy. We use Tara regularly and travel without worries!

Tara was fantastic with Sasha! She shared helpful tips for managing her barking and leash pulling, and she even taught her to use the treadmill! I'm so grateful for her knowledge and care.

Doggy Day Care • Oct 06, 2025

This was our first booking with Tara for our senior dog. The initial meet-and-greet session went very well, and Tara's sweet little dogs were friendly with ours. Tara's large, fenced yard was a wonderful oasis. Tara's experience is obvious, and she sent us several text updates with pictures that put our minds at ease while we were traveling.

This was our first time using Tara as a sitter and we were very happy with the experience. Tara was professional and clearly knew how to care for and interact with Brandy who is a little timid around new people. Tara worked with Brandy to get her comfortable with a new routine, and showed resourcefulness in getting Brandy to take her meds and be comfortable eating in a new environment. Tara sent us pictures and kept us informed about Brandy's progress. Brandy clearly felt comfortable and content under Tara's care. We will definitely be having Tara care for Brandy again!

Tara was a foster for our rescue- coopers companions in pueblo, co. While she was here she fostered quite a few of our dogs. She was wonderful to them. Very loving and caring as well. She potty trained, socialized and trained them as well. She was very dependable and we miss her. Joan R Maggs Barros Admin Coopers companions 919 Lake Ave, Pueblo, CO. 81004 719 583 8293

Schedule

--- Must have a 3 day notice for care requests, as I require a meetup with dogs & their owners before actually accepting a booking. If you are unable to do this, I'm unable to take care of your fur babies. --- I work from home, so my availability is fairly open unless we're on vacation or if in the event that I have to go on a business trip. _____________________________________________________________________________ *** Important Note*** Doggie Day Care is for "up to 9 hours" each stay. If you need care for more than 9 hours, please schedule it as a boarding. Just let me know it's for an extended hours stay in a message. Otherwise, for requested stays exceeding 9 hours, I will send you a modification request changing it from 'day care' to the status of 'boarding' which costs more. If I have to send you a modification request & you don't want to pay a boarding fee for time exceeding 9 hours, you may choose to decline the change & it will never actually be booked with me. However, in this instance, you will need to find another sitter. Thank you for understanding...

Safety, trust & environment

We have a fenced in yard for your pup to play in. The previous home owners put in a separate fenced kennel, so that's an available option in case you prefer your dog to be separated. It's unusual, but some people do prefer that. We almost never use it, though.

Pets

A typical day

If the pet I'm sitting likes to play fetch, I'm happy to do that in our back yard. Neither of my dogs play fetch. Well... One does, but doesn't bring the toy back to us. Ha Ha! The other just looks at me like, "Yeah, so? You threw a toy. What do I care?" :-) I can also train your dog to walk on a treadmill, if you agree to that, so they can get solid uninterrupted exercise and not stopping to sniff everything. My dogs walk on it daily.

1. Very Important! - Are your pups up to date on their vaccinations - especially rabies, parvo/distemper & kennel cough? And are they on a flea, tick & heart worm regimen? 2. Are they house broken? We have had some serious messes before, especially from boy dogs hiking their legs. That's not something I'm prepared to deal with. 3. Are they spayed/neutered. In my experience, specifically male dogs that are not neutered tend to be problematic & territorial. Female dogs not spayed & (pardon the details here, but) in heat, drip blood onto floors & furniture. No thank you... 4. Do they have any behavioral issues, like biting or destroying furniture? If so, they will need to be crated or put in the separate fenced kennel area outside, depending on your preference. 5. Have they ever bitten or killed another dog? Play biting & wrestling doesn't count unless they brought blood.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
