Sydney can care for
Availability
I typically only have weekend availability. However, I may have occasional weekday availability. I will not provide walks after the sun has gone down. I am not comfortable taking dogs on long walks in the middle of the day due to the high temperatures and hot pavement (I will do short walks in grassy or shaded areas, or if your dog wears protective paw “shoes”).

Safety, trust & environment
As a dog walker, one thing I will NOT do to ensure your dog's safety is walking them on hard surfaces too hot for humans to walk on barefoot unless your dog has protective shoes, or they are able to stay on grass (I want to protect their paws!). If possible, I use a harness and a standard leash (non-retractable) as an extra safety measure. I will also do my best to avoid potentially stressful situations for the dog, so please tell me if they have certain triggers (such as strangers, other dogs, loud noises, etc)! Overall, I want to make sure you feel comfortable entrusting me to care for your pet, so please let me know of anything you would like me to do or watch out for, like if your pet has a tendency to chew on things they shouldn't, or if they are reactive to humans, dogs, other animals, etc.
Information Sydney P. would like to know about your pet
Please let me know of any special needs or behaviors I should be aware of (e.g., reactiveness to people or animals, sight or hearing problems, arthritis, dental concerns, etc). I would also appreciate knowing any quirks your pet may have, like needing a "trigger" word before they will eat, only drinking water from a specific bowl, or needing a treat or toy before a specific task. I want you to feel safe leaving your pet with me, and I want your pet to feel safe with me. Your pet's well-being is my top priority, so I will take any information you give me, there is no such thing as too many details!
A typical day
I like to follow the dog’s lead on walks. If they want to go slow and sniff everything, I’ll let them, or If they feel like walking fast, that’s what we will do! I also like to let the dogs decide where we go when possible, as I feel like they enjoy it (and I also like seeing what they choose)!

Pet care experience
I have been taking care of dogs since I was 10 years old. The dogs I have cared for range in age from a couple months to 16+. I have experience working with dogs of various abilities (mobility issues, blindness, deafness, as well as typical puppy behaviors). Between dog-sitting, walking, and over 150 volunteer hours at animal shelters, I have worked with many breeds, from dachshunds to great danes, and everything in-between (including bully breeds and mixes). I am not a dog trainer, but I did train my family dog basics, including "sit", "stay", "roll-over", and even "play dead". I am a huge supporter of enrichment activities, and enjoy trying new activities with pets (I am always learning new things along with the dogs!). I understand every dog is different, and I love getting to know new dogs and catering to their individual needs to ensure their health and happiness.

Reviews

Sydney was wonderful with Buttons & Benjamin. She jumped in at the last minute and took care of my dogs, both of whom have special needs. I hope to continue to work with Sydney in the future!

Sydney was amazing! We had never used a Rover to come and care for our dog so we were a bit nervous that she would be skittish around strangers. But Sydney provided great updates and our dog loved her and was well taken care of. Would definitely use Sydney again!

Was very helpful and able to check on my cat with late notice. Would definitely have Sydney come back
Our dog Sady is a lhaso apso toy poodle mix. She is 16 years old. Sady is nearly blind and requires assistance navigating stairs to go out for potty breaks. She also requires medication. Upon meeting Sydney, Sady was comfortable with her right away. This is not always the case. Sydney held her confidently and talked to her soothingly. Sydney did a great job taking care of Sady. Sydney was in contact with us daily with a progress report and unafraid to ask questions or voice concerns. I would definitely recommend meeting with Sydney to see if she is a match with your furry family members.
