Pet care experience

Wild-at-heart housesitting/pet care

I am committed to providing your home & pets with a high level of attention based on my extensive professional house care & animal care/handling experience, from horses and large hoof-stock like elk and bison to exotic zoo animals and other rehabilitated wildlife (eagles, owls, porcupines, foxes) to friendly labradors in urban Los Angeles and chickens and champion Iditarod sled dogs off-the-grid in the Alaskan wilderness — as well as almost 40 years of life lived with a menagerie of domesticated personal pets including birds, cats, dogs, and reptiles & rodents. I have a soft spot in my heart for elderly pets, and currently help care for & train my Dad’s rambunctious (big!) 3-year old German Shepherd puppy, Hunter. Available for full-time (a.k.a. ‘constant care’) housesits for creatures of all types! The more unusual species or breed, the better. Happy to do virtual &/or in person meet & greets.

Safety, trust & environment

I have extensive professional housesitting, property management & horse care experience, including managing remote private and commercial properties with various house pets, teams of sled dogs, chickens and horses in both Alaska & New Zealand — managing an Alaskan luxury wilderness lodge Harrison Ford once flew his helicopter into, small cruise ship operations in Alaska and a horseback riding bed & breakfast in New Zealand while the owners traveled abroad. I have worked as a horseback guide in Alaska and New Zealand and as a ranch hand in Kentucky, where I’m originally from.

This was our very first time using Suzzane! and I’m pretty sure she completely ruined us…🫶🏻🤣 because I don’t know how anyone could ever top this experience! 🤣🫶🏻 From day one, her communication was absolutely flawless. Every update was so thoughtful, detailed, and full humor. You could genuinely feel how much she cared about our doods, and it made being away from them so much easier. She was also incredibly dependable and always there exactly when she said she’d be. As an anxious dog mom, that meant the world to me! She went so far above and beyond. Our sweet Gunner hurt his paw while we were gone, and she thoughtfully laid a towel over the sharp rocks so he wouldn’t have to walk on them. That one small gesture said everything about the kind of person she is. She wasn’t just checking boxes, she was truly caring for our dogs like they were her own. I can honestly say I don’t think our dogs were ever anything less than her number one priority. They were loved, spoiled, and so well cared for. And somehow, while giving them VIP treatment, she also took incredible care of our home, cleaning up after herself. I almost don’t even want to leave this review because I’d really prefer to keep her our little secret. 🤣 But she deserves every bit of praise. If you’re lucky enough to book with her, your pets (and your home) will be in the absolute best hands. We already can’t wait for our next trip because we know they’ll be just as excited to see her as we are! 🐾❤️

Suzanne was phenomenal! I have a reactive dog who is tough to warm up to and she was so patient with him. All of our dogs love her and I plan to have her out again!

Suzanne went above and beyond in every aspect of her stay with Lou and Lobo, walking them often, communicating clearly and sending updates. I was confident they were her primary focus and work during her stay. We would be grateful to book with her again. I rarely leave my dogs when I travel and appreciate the excellent, conscientious in home care Sarah provided Lou and Lobo.

As a fellow Rover pet caretaker, Suzanne is one of the few people I trust to join me on the job when I've done a collaborative sit. With her extensive travel and animal care experience, I always know she'll be reliable and capable to handle any situation. I also appreciate her high level of consideration, her compassion for animals and a strong attention to detail. She's also one of the best communicators & tidiest people I know. If I had pets of my own, she'd be on top of my list!

Like humans, each animal is unique & all of us have our quirks! Please let me know what these may be ahead of time when you reach out for all pets needing care at your home or on the property: the more I know, the better care I can provide for your pet and determine if we’re a good match. Along with personality basics & age, I’d love a heads-up on any health conditions…and of course, favorite treats! Dietary restrictions, treat protocol, sensory sensitivities, activities your pet loves, routines & habits, etc.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
