GrandPaws Puppy Haven /Newport News

Retired person ready to love your Fur-babies! I am retired with nothing but time on our hands,I have owned dogs for over 40+ years. I am licensed by the city of Newport News under Grandpaws Puppy Haven to sit for dogs. I have a big fenced in, long backyard with lots of room to run. At the end of street is a park to take walks too. If it is to cold I can provide doggy wear to go to the park.. I give good cuddles and free belly-rubs. Homemade dog biscuits for treats. Try me out- You'll be amazed! Your dog can be separated from other dogs if needed by fence in the house. I live 3 miles from I 64 and 2.5 miles from Williamsburg/ Newport News airport. I go to your house 3 or 4 times a day to feed and let out your dog to go to the bathroom.. There maybe an extra fee for excessive mileage. Note: at this time, I only offer sitting for dogs at my home. I don’t currently accept other animals unless at your house.. Thank you!

I would not recommend this sitter. The place is dirty and smells like urine or ammonia.

Took on my dog last minute and took extra special care of her. Provided regular updates and let me know when my puppy was low on food.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend Susan for boarding of a dog. Based on her reviews, 5 stars and stated to be licensed by the city, I confidently booked our recently adopted dog for 11 nights. On drop off, I regretted by decision but it was too late to alter our plans. The front yard was littered with cigarette butts and the house was cluttered. I checked in during our trip as I had left a couple of medications for my dog. I was assured they were given. I did receive some pictures of my dog and a report that my dog tore some things up when Susan forgot to put the dog in her crate when she left the home. Susan said she had trouble with my dog going to the bathroom outside, but she is fully house trained. Upon return, our dog seemed very anxious and did not settle until she was placed into our car. The dog and her belongings had a strong odor. She needed a bath and I threw away many of her things due to odor. Our dog destroyed her bed and chewed up her food dish. I found one of the dogs medications still with her belongings. She was obviously overfed and took about a week to settle back to feeling secure at home.

Unfortunately I wish I could write a better review about Susan as she is a very nice person but what she posted on her profile does not match at all what we experienced with our dog. It was a terrible service and we made the mistake of paying her rate. It is not worth it and I do not recommend staying with her. We had thought she was going to be great given her raving reviews and returning clients, but it was not. Here are SOME of the things we experienced: -The house was overly cluttered and didn’t have any space for our dog. Stayed 4 days in a 4X4 area in the center of the living room. -Even though she has a backyard there was no proof she took our dog there let alone outside because all of her stuff was peed on -There was a heater pointed directly towards her in her kennel at 71 degrees. -Communication was terrible. We had to text her for updates and she would not reply for hours. -She continued to say that our dog refused to go outside and did not want to eat. On her last day (after pick up) I asked if she had eaten and she did not reply until the next day. She did not eat. -Our dog doesn’t use pee pads, but there were pee pads right next to her kennel literally surrounding it. We had to wash our dog and all of her stuff because it smelled like pee. This is no place to leave your pet. If you want to be cautious make sure you see the place BEFORE you pay anything. That was a mistake we will not make again.
