I ask a long list of questions, aiming to ensure your pets are safe, and so are the people around them. Initially I walk a dog on the lead till I am sure they know me and will return if called. Then, if the owner wishes, I will walk them off the lead if away from roads , stock animals etc This obviously depends on the owner wishing me to do that and being confident of their dogs recall. I try to ensure that pets stick to their usual routine so they are confident of what will happen. I need smoke cat and feather free space, with a bit of freezer space, somewhere lit to do paperwork and a spare set of keys to secure the house. I bring just about everything else.

Information Stephanie H. would like to know about your pet

I supply a long list of questions so i can do as you want with your dog and give them a familiar day with their usual commands. Also things like stopcocks so I can cope in an emergency! Most important is i need to know about any medical or behavioural issues and their training The price is based on my sleeping in the dogs home, and doing an hour of walks a day plus feeds and toilet breaks. It assumes I can leave the animals for a few hours to shop etc. Can your dog safely be left alone for up to 5 /6 hours? If they need constant care (a person in the house with them at all times) please let me know and we can discuss my availability and rates, which are higher for this type of care Having it all written down means I have something to refer to but I will try snd text you each day with photos ( if you want me to)

A typical day

Obviously it depends on what the owners would like me to do. A walk helps most dogs even if they have a big garden. Initially a good morning walk before the sun is too hot, in their usual familiar place, then sometimes into the back of my car and off to a river or canal walk somewhere new. Lots of stops to sniff and home for a good lie down!! Usually a shorter walk in the evening Then evening cuddles before bed. During the heatwave i’d often be back before 9am from a 1 hour plus not too hot walk! Then they can have a day in the shade.

Pet care experience

I was brought up by a lab but long working hours and travelling for family meant I couldn’t have my own. So I’ve always cared for family and friends dogs and now house sit and walk dogs as I visit around the country. Typically I feed and take the dog for a long walk in the morning, continuing any training, letting them run if they can. I then go out and visit for the afternoon, and return to feed play and a bedtime walk, but obviously fit in with your pets usual routine. I try and give them a holiday and fun just as their owners are having, so if it is feasible I may take them with me. I am allergic to cats but happy to sit for other pets and chickens etc in smoke and camera free homes anywhere in the UK. I provide a comprehensive list of questions to enable me to safely care for your animals but please add anything else I should know. Happy to answer any questions. I am busily retired but book dog sitting in between some work (still) and my garden and travels. I can pop in and feed / toilet break for dogs near my home but mostly house snd pet sit. I sit or visit in the pets own home and try to keep to their usual routine. I dont have my own pet so just sit for one household at a time. The day rate covers my sleeping in your house, 2 feeds and 2 walks a day plus day and late night lift a leg short outings. Plus some cuddles and play of course! I cannot usually provide continuous supervision and do go out shoppjng etc. It may be possible to provide 24/7 presence for a short time. Please discuss if needed Walks usually start cautiously and dogs are only off the lead if they do not bolt / run away and it is safe and the owners are happy for me to do so. I enjoy sitting for trained, safe dogs. I try and continue the same words of command training and routines that the owner has used and praise good behaviour. Lots of pats and rewards!!

We were very pleased with Stephanie in how she looked after my brother's dog whilst we celebrated the diamond wedding anniversary of my wife and I. She came very well prepared for her dog sitting duties with us and my brother's dog Jax was clearly well looked after. We would have her again if the occasion arises!

Stephanie was the perfect house and dog sitter. She took our dog Rufus for long walks everyday to different locations. When we got back, the house was in the same order as we left it. Can’t recommend Stephanie any higher.

Stephanie was fantastic leading up to the sit and visited numerous times to ensure our pup was familiar with her and they built a good relationship from these visits. She was very thorough with care details and clearly wanted to make sure she was caring for our dog in the right way. During the stay, she sent lots of updates and photos of walks and activities and it was lovely to see how much fun they were having together. On arriving home, our house looked untouched and the dog very well cared for! We will definitely be booking Stephanie again!!

Stephanie (Steph) is my elder sister. When we were children our parents, or more specifically our mother, had a Black Labrador (Coco). Steph will cheerfully tell anyone that Coco brought her up! Suffice to say she is and always has been completely at home with dogs. Scrolling forward several decades, my wife and I and our children had our first family dog (Max) as a 7 month old rescue from the NCDL (as was) 25 years ago, for 13 years. We now have 2 dogs (Gizmo and Gypsy) both re-homed 6 years ago and now aged 13 &14. Throughout the times we have had dogs, which as you will see have been from puppy to geriatric, Steph has dog sat from time to time. We have never had cause to worry or regret this, indeed Steph is one of our first ports of call if we're looking for a dog-sitter. She would be first choice if we lived nearer each other.
