I'm taking some online courses (professional development for teaching) with no set times, so my schedule is very open. I tend to plan my days around dog walking and sitting, so your pet is typically my first priority!

Safety, trust & environment

I only care for dogs in their own home and walk them in their own neighbourhood because I believe it gives them a sense of comfort. Especially for the first few times I think it's hard on your dog to not only put them with a new person, but also a new location. Give me as much information about their needs as possible, don't feel like it's too much! Having that information written down is great, but I'll also go over it with you in person during a Meet & Greet.

Information Skyler R. would like to know about your pet

I need to know the maximum number of treats I can give! If you have an adorable dog, it can be hard to resist not giving them a bunch. Also anything that might frighten your dog. The first few times are always about building trust and a relationship with a dog, anything that can help that along is good to know. I always do a Meet & Greet, so I'll get important information from you then, but it never hurts to know ahead of time!

A typical day

When walking dogs, I usually just go straight for the nearest park or green space. I don't let dogs off leash to play except at their house (assuming there's a fenced in backyard). I really enjoy playing fetch with a dog and sometimes I just like to run around with them to tire them out (and get a little exercise for myself). When I'm dogsitting I always do provide an hour of exercise a day, usually that's in the form of 2x30 minute walks, or sometimes a walk and fetch, it depends on what your dog likes. If you have a high energy dog that needs more exercise than that we can discuss rates based on their needs.

I love walking more than your dog!

Pet care experience

I've taken care of dogs in 6 different cities/areas in 4 countries. I have done most dogsitting/walking off of Rover so my reviews are a fraction of the amount of what I've actually done. In 2019 I spent a few months in Mongolia riding horses and volunteering at a dog project that's working to bring back the Mongolian Bankhar (look up pictures, they're beautiful dogs)! There were around 25 dogs that I helped take care of while there feeding, watering, and most importantly playing! I have had dogs since I was young, an English Cocker Spaniel named Max and then later a landseer Newfoundland dog named Jenna. I don't currently have a dog, which is why I like Rover so much since I miss having a dog of my own. I really love big dogs, but I think small dogs are great too! I've dogsat everything from Chihuahuas to Great Danes, as well as cats, rabbits, and chicks. After a couple years of being a teacher in far northern Ontario, I've moved back down to Toronto and am starting to dogsit again.

Skyler was great with our two dogs! He was flexible and understanding and when he left they were calm. We would be so happy to rebook Skyler again

Highly recommend Skyler! He gave us lots of updates, was very flexible with schedule and took great care of our dog. Will definitely request his housesitting/dog walking services in the future!

All I can say is that we were very nervous booking through Rover for the 1st time and leaving our fur children with someone we did not know. That being said we would highly recommend this service to our friends and family. Meeting Skyler put us at ease. Very professional and easy to talk to. Could definitely tell he is a genuine animal lover and we felt 100% comfortable with him staying in our home and looking after our animals with mild special needs. We were updated daily with pictures which set our minds at ease knowing they were being taken care of. My wife and I will definitely be re-booking with Skyler in the future.

Skyler has been great to work with! We are leaving on a trip and in preparation for his upcoming dog sitting stay, we’ve been hiring Skyler to dog walk to help our dogs get used to him. Skyler has been asking lots of questions about our dogs to get to know them. We’ve appreciated his flexibility in meeting with us and our dogs multiple times to help ease the transition and our mind leave them. Our dogs are our babies and we wouldn’t just settle for anyone! I feel like Skyler is a natural with dogs and I think our dogs will be in great hands! Thank you Skyler! 🙂
