About Shira C.

Safety, trust & environment
My petcare philosophy is treating every animal as if they were my own and strive to make them happy, confident and secure at all times. This includes paying attention to the animal's specific needs and always listening listening to their behavior. Having worked with higher needs animals, I strive to always be aware of stressors and potential issues so I can minimize any instance of insecurity or lack of confidence. Not only is this ensuring safety for myself, the animal and any other environmental factor, but it creates a sense of trust which further minimizes issues. I am also familiar and have worked with many different kinds of harnesses, muzzles and leash combinations so walks and any outings will go as smoothly as possible.
Information Shira C. would like to know about your pet
It's important for me to know a little bit about a dog's history so I know if/where extra attention can be given to refocusing or avoiding stimuli. Additional things I would love to know; Can I give them treats? Are they allergic to anything/are on a specific diet? (I will do my best to have non-chicken based treats on hand since many pit mixes have chicken allergies) Where are they in their ongoing training journey? Is there anything in particular you would want me to be aware of/work on with them in regards to leash manners, door manners or other walk-based situations? How is the dog with their toys (in regards to possessive aggression)? What are their favorite toys? Where do they love to be pet? Where do they not like to be pet? Do you have a typical/preferred route for walking or outdoor activity?
A typical day
I like to seek out fun and safely stimulating outdoor spaces with lots of different smells, textures and sights to take in! If safe and appropriate, throwing a ball around and running around in an enclosed area is also an activity that I love to do with the animals I work with. I also have endless belly rub/scratching energy for dogs who can't get enough.

An Experienced Animal Caretaker
Pet care experience
I am a lifelong animal lover and have been taking care of animals since I was a child, including pet sitting and walking several friends and community members dogs. As an adult, I have worked and volunteered for several animal shelter/rescue organizations and have extensive knowledge on different techniques of animal care, training and behavior for varying species and ages. I have worked successfully with pets of varying attention needs and behavioral issues and am confident in my ability to redirect unwanted behavior. At the heart of my petcare philosophy, I treat every animal I work with as if they were my own and deserves to feel happy, confident and secure at all times.

Reviews

Shira is great. Her visit reports and photos are reassuring for concerned dog parents. She took diligent notes and filled in wherever I forgot to mention.

Shira has saved me several times with last minute walks! She takes such good care of my pup and is always on time and detailed on the Rover card. I can’t recommend her enough!

Shira took great care of my dogs! She kept me updated and made sure to send me photos each walk!

Shira did an amazing job taking care of my dogs! Enjoyed seeing the updates and photos of them from her! Since it is winter, she made sure my golden retriever booties were on which does take time getting them on. I’m very thankful for Shira taking such good care of my Dogs!
