I generally keep an open schedule, clear of any appointments and such that could cause problems or interfere with daily routines. I only take one client at a time as well to ensure my time is fully committed.

Safety, trust & environment
When caring for pets in my home, I focus on creating a structured, calm, and safe environment that closely mirrors their normal routine. I keep feeding schedules consistent, provide appropriate exercise based on age and energy level, and make sure they have a comfortable, quiet space to decompress. I carefully monitor behavior, appetite, bathroom habits, and overall wellness. For pets with medical needs, I follow all medication instructions precisely and keep detailed notes to ensure consistency. I’m especially mindful of pets with anxiety, fear, or special needs, using patient, low-stress handling techniques to help them feel secure and supported. When caring for pets in my client’s home, I prioritize maintaining their established routine so they feel comfortable in their familiar environment. I follow all instructions closely regarding feeding, walks, enrichment, medications, and household preferences. I provide updates with photos and detailed check-ins so owners feel confident and informed while they’re away. Cleanliness, safety, and respect for both the pet and the home are always a top priority. My goal in either setting is to provide dependable, attentive care that keeps pets happy, healthy, and stress-free

Information Shelby H. would like to know about your pet
Before caring for any pet, it’s very important for me to understand their routine, personality, and specific needs. I like to know their feeding schedule, dietary restrictions, allergies, and any medications they’re currently taking, including exact dosages and timing. If they have any medical conditions, past injuries, or mobility limitations, that’s essential information so I can provide proper care and monitoring. It’s also helpful to know about their temperament — how they respond to new people, other animals, loud noises, or changes in routine. If they have anxiety, fear triggers, or any history of aggression, I want to know what situations to avoid and what techniques work best to help them feel safe. For dogs, I ask about leash behavior, recall reliability, and energy level. For cats, I like to know their litter habits, favorite hiding spots, and how they prefer to interact. I also ask about emergency contacts, preferred veterinarian information, and any household rules or boundaries you’d like followed. The more I know ahead of time, the better I can provide consistent, safe, and individualized care that keeps your pet comfortable and stress-free while you’re away.
A typical day
I tailor activities to each pet’s age, personality, and energy level. For high-energy dogs, that may include structured walks, play sessions, fetch, tug, basic training refreshers, and mentally stimulating games to keep them engaged. For calmer or senior pets, I focus on gentle walks, light play, enrichment toys, and one-on-one attention at a pace that’s comfortable for them. For pets who enjoy mental stimulation, I incorporate puzzle toys, scent work, basic obedience practice, and confidence-building exercises. Cats receive interactive play with teaser toys, enrichment activities, and plenty of calm affection (on their terms). I’m especially mindful of pets with anxiety or fear-based behaviors, so I incorporate activities that build trust and confidence without overwhelming them. My goal is to make every visit engaging, balanced, and suited specifically to your pet — so they’re not just being watched, they’re thriving and having a great time while you’re away.

Pet care experience
With 14 years of professional pet care experience, and when I’m not running my own pet sitting business I am working in Rover. I’ve dedicated my career to providing safe, knowledgeable, and compassionate care for animals of all kinds. I spent a couple of years working in boarding facilities to further expand my hands-on skills, where I trained in proper medication administration and gained extensive experience handling pets of all ages, temperaments, and medical needs. I specialize in working with pets who struggle with anxiety and fear-based behaviors, using calm, patient techniques to help them feel secure and understood. I’ve worked with military and working dogs, which strengthened my confidence, structure, and leadership in handling high-drive animals. I’m comfortable managing large, energetic breeds as well as senior pets with disabilities and pets born with special needs. My goal is always to provide attentive, individualized care that meets each pet exactly where they are.

Reviews

Shelby was great. We did a meet and greet prior to boarding and she answered all my questions. It’s nice that Shelby has extensive experience boarding dogs (sometimes for months for active duty military). My dog is high energy and often won’t eat the first day I leave her with a rover but Shelby put her at ease and she was chomping on her dental chew the first night! I really appreciated her responsiveness and frequent updates during my time away. It was awesome that she already has a crate in her house so I didn’t have to bring my own. I would recommend her services to a friend. Thanks for taking such great care of my girl! 🐶
Shelby H. cancelled a booking within a day of the start date.

Shelby did an excellent job house and dog sitting during a weekend trip to Tampa. She kept us updated many times with texts and photos of our dog to eliminate worries about leaving our Golden Retriever for 3 days. I highly recommend Shelby for future dog sitting events.

Shelby was super accommodating and responsive!
