We walk our own dog twice a day and usually give him a run in our field. We are retired so home all day. We understand that dogs like routine and have often had family member's dogs to stay.

We have a fenced garden. We use a child gate to keep the dog in the kitchen when someone comes to the door. We keep dogs on a lead unless it is safe and appropriate to let them run free. We have a large field with hedges which is secure to let them run free. We have a lot of experience working with animals and dogs.

This can be very important for example the lovely mild tempered terrier who actually hates the postman so we can make sure he stays secure. We have looked after an XL bully so need to know the current rules and have a copy of their certificate etc. Knowing if dogs hate cats etc.
A typical day
When we look after a dog we try to be mindful of his routine but follow a routine that we think the dog will enjoy. We usually start with a run in the garden, followed by a walk and a run in our field. Followed by their food if they are fed more than once. We do the same routine afternoon and play with any toys as appropriate. Our dog loves his frisby. We often go for a walk on Exmoor being mindful of sheep etc.

Pet care experience
I started dog walking a neighbour's dog when I was 10 years old every night after school and have loved dogs ever since. As a family we have always owned a dog usually from a puppy. My husband and I are retired now and have a big garden and also own a large field where dogs can run free. We have a lurcher who is very lively but very sociable with dogs coming into our home. We were foster carers before we retired so we are well trained in assessing danger and having a safety first attitude.
Reviews

Paddy had the most wonderful time. Shelagh and Pete gave him the best holiday - lots of cuddles and plenty of fun running in their field with their dog Spike. We couldn’t have asked for more. When we picked him up he seemed completely at home so we wouldn’t hesitate to book him in for another stay. Very grateful for all of Shelagh’s care and attention.

Paddy had a wonderful stay with Shelagh and her husband Pete. Paddy can get overexcited on meeting new people and had not boarded away from home or stayed with another dog before so we were uncertain how he would react. We needn’t have worried. Shelagh and Pete are very animal aware and felt he’d settle into his new routine. He had an initial two day visit, spent a lovely time running free in the enclosed field, and we returned to collect him finding the two dogs perfectly happy wandering around together. A real success - we instantly booked Paddy for a week’s stay so we could go away on holiday on our own. Very pleased and grateful for Shelagh & Pete’s care.

Tilly had a lovely stay with Shelagh. Kept me updated on how she was doing. Came home nice and happy.
Shelagh dean has always owned pets and they have always had a great life with her! She often takes care of my dogs when i’m away and they go to the field at least twice a day and feel very relaxed in her company and her friendly dog home atmosphere! They will be very well looked after and you can trust her with your pet friends! You can be reassured your pet will be save! well looked after and come home with you just as they left! perhaps alittle tired as they will get very well exercised and loved!
