There is a doggie door so they are free to come and go as long as I am home I have a fenced in back yard it’s 5 feet tall and I have wire fencing at the bottom to keep rabbits and ducks out of my yard. It prevents little dogs from escaping as well. I do not let small dogs out without me since there are hawks and owls close by
