Pet care experience

Fewer Guests. More Personal Care.

Hi, I’m Shawn! For about 24 years, I have cared for animals ranging from small dogs and cats to giant breeds and less conventional companions. I intentionally welcome only a small number of pets at a time - typically two or three - so every guest receives meaningful attention, affection, play, and supervision. My home is a home, not a high-volume kennel facility, and pets are not kenneled unless their owner requests it as part of their normal routine. My experience includes caring for my own animals as well as pets belonging to friends, family members, colleagues, and clients. I have also worked with live animals professionally as a zoology teacher and wildlife biologist. Beyond dogs and cats, I have experience with reptiles, tarantulas, birds, small mammals, and freshwater and saltwater aquariums. Every animal has different needs and a personality of their own. I am happy to follow your established routines and accommodate special requests whenever possible. My goal is for your pet to feel safe, comfortable, and genuinely cared for and for you to enjoy your time away without worry. Thank you for your interest and I am happy to answer any of your questions. Cheers!

We are so thankful for Shawn for caring for our 4 week old puppy while we were away for a week. Our puppy had the best week meeting new friends!

Shawn was great with Molly, my dog. Molly is pretty easy to sit for, she is old and sleepy.

We chose to use Rover while we went on vacation due to issues with boarding in the past and I was so worried about leaving my pups with someone for a whole week. The younger one has some attachment issues and separation anxiety and has not been away from us more than two dats. Shawn did amazing while caring for our babies, even giving our poor boy his anxiety meds when he started throwing up! There were some issues with the rover app that prevented communication, but he reached out to my cell number with concerns. I even messaged him after I had already picked up the dogs with a couple of questions and he responded and communicated with me. Our pups were happy and well cared for and I will definitely be using Shawn again when we leave town!

We had a truly exceptional experience boarding our pup overnight with Shawn! He was extremely responsive, attentive, and cared so well for our boy. We would highly recommend and use his services again.

Schedule

Because I work from home, I have an exceptionally flexible schedule and am present throughout most, if not all, of the day. This allows me to provide frequent potty breaks, playtime, affection, supervision, and companionship to your pet.

Where your pet will stay

Home characteristics

Lives in a house
Has a fenced yard
Non-smoking household
Has no pets
No children present

Potty breaks every 0-2 hours

Safety, trust & environment

I provide a calm, home-style environment with only a limited number of guests at one time. This allows me to closely monitor each pet, give them plenty of individual attention, and become familiar with their behavior and needs. Dogs are not routinely kenneled in my home. If your pet is accustomed to sleeping or relaxing in a crate, I am happy to maintain that routine at your request. I carefully follow all feeding, medication, exercise, and household instructions provided by their owner. I also carry my own professional pet-care insurance for additional protection and peace of mind. Finally, I have a very large backyard that affords ample opportunity for play and movement, all within a safe and enclosed environment.

A typical day

A typical day is built around your pet’s familiar routine and individual personality. Depending on what they enjoy, that may include walks, fetch, playtime, backyard breaks, belly rubs, ear scratches, cuddling on the couch, or simply relaxing near me while I work. Because I am home throughout the day, your pet will receive regular companionship rather than spending most of their stay alone. If they have a favorite game, activity, walking route, or relaxation ritual, please share - I would love to make it part of their stay.

Every pet is different, so I like to learn as much as I reasonably can before their stay. This helps me provide safe, comfortable care while keeping their experience as familiar and stress-free as possible. Before booking, I will ask about your pet’s daily routine, personality, feeding schedule, potty habits, exercise needs, medications, health concerns, vaccination status, and comfort around people and other animals. I would also like to know how they behave in another person’s home, including any history of chewing, marking, escaping, guarding food or toys, or experiencing separation anxiety. Please also share their veterinarian’s information, an emergency contact, and anything else that would help me understand what makes your pet feel safe, happy, and at home.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
