I work in events and remote from home. I also have a dog walker/sitter whose been with me for 9 years. She's a high functioning special needs adult, wonderful with animals, she might pitch in, come and hang out, so they aren't alone if I'm gone a little longer than planned. Care of your pets is 100% joy.

Safety, trust & environment

I have a cozy place, that has a partially enclosed front yard, a three foot wall, with a lot of shrubs for more than half. They love it. But...depending on your dog's size, habits (jumper!) I don't leave them unattended. I have a smaller, completely enclosed back area where they can be unattended but only if I'm home, they can go in and out, which is great because I work at home. I live in a great walking neighborhood with lots of dogs. Walking with them is also one of my favorite things, and when we do, I'm paying attention - see how they are around other dogs, people. Laugh when they get excited by squirrels, birds and lizards, yell at the skateboards :) I have really good friends nearby with dogs who love playdates. All my friends are dog lovers too. In either my home or yours, I follow your direction for their care, no 'spoiling ' :) I make homemade food too if yours like that. I can crate them, take them to their appointments. I am devoted to their care, feeling loved while you're away.

Information Sharyl H. would like to know about your pet

Whatever your routines are, I will follow. Any special needs, any likes/dislikes, quirks all their own they have. If they are on medications, like their meds a certain way, whatever is the way they are administered, let me know. If they need a bath, brushing, regular eye/ear cleaning, happy to do that too. Please make sure I have your vet info and preferred emergency service.

A typical day

It's all about them! Walks, hangs in the yard, playdates with other dogs, playing their favorite game or with toys. Going to a dog-friendly event or backyard party. I love knowing what their favorite things to do are and making it happen.

Pet care experience

I love dogs of every type, I am a life-long dog owner, and advocate through rescue for over 20 years. Kitties too! I work with Pedro Pet Pals, Animals Rule here in San Pedro, and have pulled dogs to foster from Harbor Shelter, provide independent rescue support through social media pet pages. Prior to that, I was in Silver Lake. A lot of my pet sits are by referral, word of mouth, so if you'd like more reviews/feedback then you see here, happy to send, I have excellent references. I limit to 2-3 animals, and always check with you about how they get along with dogs/cats. You can request that your pets be the only pets for an additional fee that's only charged if I have to turn down another pet sit. It only happens seldom. They get a lot of focused attention. Some people call me a whisperer :) I'm the person who meets all my neighbors because of walking the dogs, I know the animals names first before the people :) I've been blessed over the years to be in a community of friends with dogs, and we have taken turns watching them for each other. I also have hired a dog sitter/walker to help with my schedule. So when I decided to turn to dog sitting as a part-time income with my freelance event work (I work from home except on the event days) after my three doggies passed away within a year and half of each other, and I was laid off, I knew I wanted to be the kind of sitter I liked to hire. Which means...there isn't anything I wouldn't do for your furbaby...there's nothing, that surprises or phases me :) I like to charge fair prices, I don't tack on fees. Medicine, baths, vet visits, whatever they need. My house is their house and I treat them as if they were my own - except! that I make sure they stay on your schedule and instructions, whatever those might be about food, treats, how they socialize. They are allowed anywhere in my house, and if they like it, I take them everywhere - to visit friends with dogs, parties, bbqs where doggies are allowed (because so many of my friends have them!) park, beach...and even errands. I don't get upset when they have accidents. My place is cozy, doggies always know they're in a doggie home. Kitties know I let them go at their own pace. Because I have worked in rescue for over 20 years, I understand all kinds of quirks and needs, especially behavioral, and will spend the time to make them feel at home. They get plenty of 1:1 TLC. I pay attention to them because they are special. And we have fun...it's like doggie day camp when they are here. My favorite job from age 12-19 was working at a day camp, and love for kids, love for dogs, same :) I'll watch your doggies/kitties in my house or yours. I have dog beds, blankets, treats, toys, bowls, even stairs/ramp if they need help getting on things, pee pads and poop bags. So all you need to bring is what you think they need while you're away-their food, treats, a favorite toy/blanket. Walks, hikes, playtime. I'm diligent about whatever your fur baby(s) need - diet, medication /topical treatments, how they are around people and animals, what they like/helps them the most. Adapt easily to their needs - cuddles or not, pets, belly rubs, whatever :) If they do anything different/out of the ordinary, I'll let you know. I'm an excellent communicator, so you'll get lots of updates, photos and videos, I love to do it. I am very active in the San Pedro community to help abused and neglected animals, network on social media.

The best cat sitter ever. Sharyl was wonderful. My cat felt safe and at home. She sent pictures throughout the day showing how relaxed my cat was. Very positive experience. Thank you Sharyl.

As a first-time Rover user, I was naturally a bit anxious about leaving our puppy with someone new.Sharyl was absolutely wonderful! She was patient, attentive, and sent plenty of updates that put our minds at ease. Romeo came home happy and well-cared for. I’ll definitely be booking with Sharyl again!

Our sweet boy had never stayed anywhere before and he was in such good hands. Sharyl was patient in helping him through the homesickness as we were away for 5 days. She gave us great pictures and updates of him. She put all 9 of us at ease! So thankful Sharyl!

This was our first experience with Sharyl…IT WAS FANTASTIC!!! Our dogs were well taken care of, okay they were spoiled. All meds were properly administered, walks giving, lots of outdoor time to take care of business, bonus treats consumed and lots of cuddle time. From the first inquiry for the booking all the way to picking up our dogs after the sitting, her communication was timely, consistent and comforting. We will be utilizing her services from here on out. I actually look forward to it. :-) I HIGHLY recommend Sharyl.
