Safety, trust & environment

I live in a bungalow house with 5 dogs, however my dogs are friendly with all dogs excluding un neutered males. If at any point the dog is uncomfortable, I am able to take them into my bedroom away from all other dogs. At no time will the dog be left alone as I am totally comfortable with the dog being on my bed and in my room with me. For walks I live right next to the woods and I will be able to take the dogs for regular walks throughout the day depending on how much energy the dogs needs to exert.

Information Shanan D. would like to know about your pet

I would like to know the age, breed and size of the dog. I would also need to be aware of any disabilities, behavioural issues and how high energy the dog is. Preferably, before sitting, walking or boarding I would like to set up a free meeting with the owner and dog just to make sure it is a good fit.

A typical day

I am able to mentally and physically stimulate dogs, I love to play with dogs, teach them tricks and also take them for long walks. In the morning the dog would be taken on a short walk for pees and poos and then fed (unless advised otherwise) then have a rest to prevent stomach injuries. After an hour I will take the dog on a much longer walk for the day unless they are unable to. The rest of the day would be for resting, some playing and then another longer walk before bed. If dogs require shorter more frequent walks due to age or disability, I am also able and willing to do that.

Pet owner with experience at dog shelter

Pet care experience

I have grown up with dogs my entire life, during this I have helped with the birth of thirty-two puppies from three litters. During this I was required to clean, feed and toilet train the puppies before they were sent to their new owners. Because of my experience with animals this led me to studying at the University of Aberdeen to get a Zoology degree. I am now in my fourth year and I have now decided to start dog sitting, walking and boarding as I volunteered at a dog shelter over the summer. This allowed me to gain experience with a variety of dogs, working with nervous dogs and gaining their trust, learning to read body language more thoroughly and walking many dogs of all sizes up to 40kg+. During the time at the shelter we had a foster pit bull mix that was reactive on walks and I gained the skills to avoid any problems and manage the dog when other dogs were off lead. I have always had the ability to understand my own dogs but the experience at the shelter allowed me to apply those skills and help so many other dogs.

Shannon D. was a volunteer at a dog shelter in Bulgaria for a month in August 2024. Everydoigmatters.eu foundation has 140 dogs, accommodated in yards and looked after by a small number of staff and the unevaluable help of volunteers from around the world. Shannon was involved in feeding, watering, cleaning the yards, dog walking etc. Part of her duties was to observe the dogs during feeding or walking and report to the supervisor if she notices wounds, cuts, lumps or any change of behaviour of the dogs. We found her very hands on, motivated, sincerely loving the dogs and caring for them. She was following the rules established in the shelter; asking questions when not clear. One of the shelter dogs is fostered by the volunteers in their accommodation. They are in charge of his walks, food and socializing. I am very positive that the above mentioned experience had given Shannon a lot of knowledge about dogs and caring for them. Understanding their nature and their needs. We found her extremely pleasant, positive and reliable. I can only highly recommend her as a dog sitter, carer, walker. She will not disappoint.
