Pet care experience

Worry free care while you're away!

Hello! My name is Shadie. Thank you for taking a look at my profile. About 10 years ago I decided to give in home doggie daycare a try. I absolutely love it. I've hosted hundreds of dogs in my home in the span of those 10 years. This has been a great opportunity to spend time getting to know all different breeds of dogs in all sizes and ages. I've hosted anywhere from Chihuahuas to Great Danes. Dogs that are a few months old on up to 14-15 years of age. I have experience with dogs that have physical disabilities, anxiety/depression, and administering different kinds of medications. I've had dogs all my life. My husband Brandon and I currently have 1 dog. A Chihuahua named willie. My home is very well maintained and we have a large, fenced backyard. Be assured that your four legged family member would be cared for in the same manner they would be if they were in their own home. About this sitter: My husband, Brandon, and I currently live in Vancouver Washington. We've been here for almost 13 years but have been in the Portland area for most of our lives. We're both avid dog lovers and always look for an opportunity to involve our 1 dog in our activities. We all love going to the beach, camping, hiking, and road trips. As I said in my previous paragraph this is now my full-time job. My previous work experience has included working for the Portland Clinic and the American Red Cross with my primary duties including working with patients and testing blood samples. My husband is in union construction and works as a Foreman out at Intel. He's been in that line of work for about 20 years now. Why I love dog sitting I have been a dog lover my entire life. I've always owned dogs and currently have 3. Most of my friends have dogs and we will trade off on dog sitting when needed. All my dogs are current on vaccines and are neutered. Meet my pets I have 1 dog. He's a 12 year old chihuahua. He's your typical chihuahua, he doesn't really care for other people but he's pretty indifferent to other dogs. About my yard I have a large, grassy backyard. I have a 6ft wooden fence that has a secured gate. I have a dog that is an escape artist and as long as the gate is blocked he can't get out. If he can't get out no one can get out. My experience administering medication As long as I'm given all the information that I need to know I have no problem giving medication. I've had to give it to my own dogs on several occasions.

I arrived to pick up my dog. I see through window and storm door that she's asleep on the couch. He's asleep in his bed, inside door. Nobody wakes up until I'm pounding. Both were out of it. The room smelled strongly of marijuana. I asked if he was just very tired she said yeah he's reeeally tired, but I knew something was wrong by his massively dilated eyes and the fact that he didn't stand up. When he did, he was wobbly, still not greeting, just spaced out AF. Once home he was so out of it I had to help him out of the car. Now, he was salivating. He had all the symptoms of THC TOXICITY via second hand exposure. Stayed at the ER vet until 3:00 a.m. when it began to wear off. Dog's brain receptors to THC are many times more sensitive than humans. It was heartbreaking to watch him and I won't risk my dog's health.

My first, one-day, "trial" review was fine. Rover won't let me change it, so I'm making a new one. I travel for a living, 2-3 times a month, and I had really hoped for this to be a long-term situation. I'm really heartbroken at how it turned out. The person who reviewed 12/2023 mentioned about their dog's bed "reeking of marijuana." Unfortunately, My dog was not well when I returned to pick him up after 4 days. I had to wake him up, as he didn't even wake or stand up when I came in. The smell was obvious In the room, at her house, and it was on my dog. (I left his bed there, anyway.) At emergency vet His exposure was confirmed. In the exam room, poor pup was staring at the walls and whining, When he did walk it was wobbly, his pupils were dilated & he was drooly. When I got him to lay down, for brief minutes, his body had quivers. Slowly over the course of about 5 hours He got closer to normal and really wasn't fully himself until the next day. I don't care what people do with their time, except where animals are concerned. Dogs receptors are many times more sensitive to the stuff than humans, so you don't get to do that on my pets time. By one star, I mean zero.

Shadie did really well with Reuben and he warmed up to her quickly, since this was his first time being watched by her. She let him play in background with other dogs and snuggle with him and he overall had a blast and was comfortable. She also is great with communication and send frequent photos of Reuben. Definitely recommend.

My dog stayed a good amount of time and he played hard. He was in good hands and the handler had good communication the whole time!

Pets

A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks I live in a very pet friendly neighborhood. Down the street is a park and about a mile away is a 3 mile walking trail. Your dog's sleeping arrangement Your dog will sleep wherever you prefer. I have kennels if your dog is kennel trained and you would like them to continue to sleep there. Otherwise, my dogs sleep on the couch, bed, dog beds. Kind of wherever they flop down at. If your dog is an outdoor dog and sleep outside they can sleep there too. It's whatever your dogs normal routine is. I want your pet to be as comfortable as possible. Time I'll spend with your dog I'm going to start working from home shortly so I will be available at all times. Currently I work Sunday-Thursday nights and my husband works days so there is always someone home night and day.

I have no breed preferences. I just ask that they be well behaved and socialized. We have no small children so if they're shy or a bit skid dish around children that's not an issue. I'm also completely okay with puppies and working with them on potty training while here.
