Making sure your dog or cat is as loved and cared for as can be while you’re away is my top priority. With that in mind, I prefer to care for your dog or cat in their own home - just as your pet will be most comfortable in their own environment, I want to keep my own pets as happy in their own home as possible as well!

Before I agree to care for your pet, I would love to meet them (and you!) and make sure we're a great fit. Things that are important for me to know are largely related to what their regular schedule is like. If you give treats and how often, typical meal times, when do they go for walks and how long, how often do they need to go out, how do they interact with other people or dogs if we go on walks, and do they have allergies or medications I should be aware of. Equally important as the basics and routines though, are the fun things! What does your dog or cat like to play with? Where do they like to go on walks or what are their favorite things? What are some fun things you would like me to do with them while you're away? Making sure your dog or cat is as happy and well loved when you're away as possible is my main goal!
A typical day
Our neighborhood is very walkable and dog-friendly. I love exploring new areas by foot and getting to know the city first hand - so walking your dog is an ideal day! While getting in a quality long walk can be important sometimes smelling the roses is just as much so. Rest assured I love a good balance and will cater a walk to you and your dog’s preference. When caring for your cat, their comfort is the most important thing. Particularly for nervous or shy cats, I always give as much space and time as needed, making sure they feel safe with me until they get more comfortable. For the more playful and curious cats I’ll make sure to keep them entertained and happy! Both personality types (and all of those in between) are something I have experience with and I’m always happy to follow their lead.

When I was growing up we always had dogs (and a bird, a cat, and plenty of fish) in our house, so a love for animals has always been an intrinsic part of my life. Our dogs, almost all Rottweilers over the years, were rescues and as such sometimes had a few special needs. I've had experience caring for different large dog breeds such as Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Collies, Pitbulls, Huskies and Golden Retrievers, ranging from very typical walking, playing, and feeding to more demanding tasks. These are not limited to giving pills, eyedrops, and various other types of medication, as well as handling minor behavioral issues. A recent Des Moines transplant, I work part time remote. My husband and I have a chaotic but lovable cat named Henry and the sweetest German Shepherd Mix named Charlotte (we call her Charlie).
