Pet care experience
We will love your dog like our own!
Scott's family has had a dog (with the exception of short periods in between dogs) his entire life and he was often responsible for feeding and taking care of the dog. As an adult Scott has almost always had a dog in which he was the prime caretaker (with a 5 year hiatus during grad school). Ying also grew up taking care of a dog in the house. My wife and I both have backgrounds in biology including a master's and PhD. During our research we have taken care of many animals as a part of research projects (mostly frogs and lizards) so we are trained to be aware of important changes in behaviors and signs of pain/distress/etc. We have also had salamanders, frogs, and lizards as pets. We have never taken care of cats (Scott is allergic) nor any other mammals, birds, etc.

Ratings and reviews
Scott and Ying are amazing! They take such great care of our dog (he LOVES them) and they even helped with our guinea pigs on short notice. Couldn’t recommend them more highly.

Scott and Ying are great caretakers! I feel so comfortable leaving Coco in their care.

great people and my dog seemed very comfortable with them!

Scott and Ying were amazing with our dog. He takes a little while to adjust to a new environment and they were incredibly patient and accommodating. I am so am so happy to have found them - but our dog is even happier! We received regular updates and pictures and our pup got lots of walks and hikes. We’ll definitely be taking our dog to them again in the future. Thank you so much, Scott and Ying!

They are great!

Ying and Scott take amazing care of our pup! I appreciate the photos and updates throughout the stay.

Schedule
While I am no longer working from home full time, my wife (Ying) and I both have hybrid schedules which allow a few days at home each week. We will do our best to have someone working from home each day we have your dog, but please be warned it may not always be possible because work things do come up (for example, I had a last minute day in the field just last week on a Friday). When we are home we provide walks or play time when we take short breaks from work (every 2 hours or so). We do not currently have any pets, but when we had our previous dog we took him on at least one walk/jog in the morning and at least one in the afternoon/evening. We love pet cuddling in the evenings and playing games with our previous pets and we can do the same for yours!
Where your pet will stay
Home characteristics
Safety, trust & environment
We have a large fenced backyard (although the fence is waist high and will not contain big jumpers). We currently have no pets, so there are numerous dog beds for your pup to lay on including one in our office so we can keep an eye on her/him and keep them company while we work (and vice versa!). We allow our dog on our couch and one of our spare bedroom beds to allow maximum cuddles (our master bed is very high, too high for many dogs). As we say above, we think walking is an important activity for dogs and we love taking dogs on walks if your pet is fit for it. They will get at least 2 walks per day and often more when we take breaks from work. Our home does have a lot of stairs so if your dog has mobility issues that might be a consideration. Our neighbor's dog has a tendency to bark during the day, so if your dog has anxiety around barking dogs or tends towards barking/defensive behaviors we again might not be a great choice. There are no other pets in the house and we have only had a dog in this house previously.
A typical day
We like to take dogs on multiple walks per day. Scott will also jog a lot in the mornings and he loves taking dogs with him to get exercise! We live right near a trailhead to the Mt Helena city park so we often took our own dog on walks into the park to provide lots of stimulating smells and doggie meet and greet experiences. We hike a lot and will take dogs on short hikes with us to give them new smells and experiences, if safe for your dog. We have many dog toys and will happily play fetch but also hide and seek with treats to help stimulate your dog, especially if it's too cold to play outside. When not walking and playing, we have beds, dog beds, and couches for your pup to snooze on. We always keep a dog bed in the office so your dog can stay near us while we work.
