Disponibilité

Unlike most sitters who work outside the home or follow a hybrid schedule, I work from home 100% of the time with a fully flexible schedule. I make it a priority to minimize time away from the dogs in my care — even everyday errands like groceries are delivered to my door. If anything does come up, my retired mom who lives with me full-time is always the backup, so your dog is never left alone. We even plan our outings around our guests — choosing dog-friendly restaurants and venues so nobody gets left behind.

Sécurité, confiance et environnement

Safety, Trust & Environment I currently offer boarding and daycare for one dog at a time in my apartment in Pentagon City — adjacent to abundant green spaces and within walking distance to Virginia Highlands Park. Daycare slots are partially reserved for a recurring client Tuesday through Thursday, so please reach out to confirm availability. Guest requirements Dogs must be dog-friendly. Cat-friendly is preferred, though if needed there is a designated separate space to ensure no direct contact. During the stay We supervise all play and interaction and separate dogs during meals and nap times to prevent overstimulation. A baby gate divides the living room and bedrooms. Walks can be done separately or together depending on your dog's temperament and needs. Our home We live in a secure condo building — unlike houses, there are no open yards, gaps in fences, or unsecured entry points, making it a naturally escape-proof environment for your dog. Our unit has two large balconies equipped with grass patch pee pads for emergencies or bad weather. If we spend time on the balcony together, dogs are always on leash to ensure they cannot slip through — and fresh water is always on hand. Windows are fitted with mosquito nets for ventilation without any escape risk. The apartment has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Your dog is welcome to sleep on the bed or anywhere they're comfortable — we allow pets on all furniture. If you prefer a separate sleeping arrangement, an XL crate is available. We have a generous selection of dog toys, treats — including occasional homemade treats with no preservatives (pending owner confirmation) — rain gear, leashes, and harnesses in a full range of sizes accumulated through every stage of Lassie's growth — all available to your dog at no extra charge.

Informations que Scarlett H. aimerait connaître au sujet de votre animal domestique

A meet and greet prior to booking is mandatory — it's the best way to ensure a good fit for everyone, including Lassie. Please share any relevant details about your dog upfront: dietary restrictions, reactivity toward other dogs, high prey drive, separation anxiety, special quirks, routines, and background. The more I know, the better I can tailor the stay to your dog's specific needs. Please note that dogs with a history of aggression or lashing out at other pets are not a good fit for our home. I look forward to meeting your furry family member and giving them a stay they — and you — will love.

Une journée type

Extensive walks around the neighborhood or the city within walkable distance. I am also totally happy to just stay home with your pup and play games with him/her, or being lazy and snuggle! We also have a car so can take your pup places if you are down for it.

Expérience en matière de services dédiés aux animaux de compagnie

My passion for dogs started early — at 13, I was deep in dog breed research and a top contributor on Yahoo Pets forums. That curiosity never stopped. I'm well-versed in breed groups — working dogs, scent hounds, terriers, toy breeds and more — and understand how breed heritage, age, and background shape how a dog needs to be cared for and handled. Loving dogs and knowing how to care for them are two very different things. Truly caring for a dog means providing consistent attention, calm and confident leadership, a safe environment, and genuine affection — and that is exactly the standard I hold myself to. My approach is informed by years of hands-on experience and continuous learning. I'm a longtime fan of Cesar Millan and follow Beckman's Dog Training on YouTube, and have hands-on experience with mixed breeds and rescues of all backgrounds — including dogs with separation anxiety, trauma histories, and special behavioral needs. Experience across sizes, ages, and needs I've cared for dogs of virtually every size and background — ranging from 6 to 120 pounds — including a weeks-old Norwich Terrier puppy, a retired Greyhound racer, and a 120-pound Great Dane. I've managed multiple dogs from the same household simultaneously, including 4 French Bulldogs and a Chihuahua at once. I have experience de-escalating and breaking up dog altercations in multi-dog households among power breeds — something most people panic over, but which requires calm, decisive handling and a read on body language before it escalates. I am pet first aid and CPR-trained, and am comfortable administering daily medications (anxiety, seizure, nerve), supplements, eye drops, and ear drops. I also have experience with shelter rescues with separation anxiety, trauma histories, and street reactivity. Even picky eaters are no problem — whether that means hand feeding, creative food toppers, or simply figuring out what works to get a reluctant dog to eat comfortably away from home. Breeds I've worked with include: Small: Chihuahua, Maltese, Miniature Schnauzer, Norwich Terrier, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/Havanese mix, Bernedoodle, Shih Tzu/Corgi mix, Pug, Russell Terrier, Rat Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier, Pomeranian, French Bulldog Medium to Large: Australian Cattle Dog, Treeing Walker Coonhound mix, Greyhound, Golden/Labradoodle, Beagle/Boxer mix, American Staffordshire Terrier, Labrador/Husky mix, Pitbull mix, Chow Chow, Shar-Pei/Pitbull mix, Weimaraner, German Shepherd/Husky mix, German Shepherd, Boxer, Australian Shepherd, Great Dane My home & my dog I'm a dog mom myself to Lassie, a spayed Rough Collie with an excellent temperament — she holds both the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU) titles. Relevant to you as a client, both certifications test calm, neutral behavior when walking in close proximity to other dogs — a key part of what makes a safe and harmonious boarding environment. Lassie has also completed agility, obedience, and nose work training, all in group settings around other dogs. She has been socialized with Rover dogs since puppyhood, gets along beautifully with dogs of all ages and sizes, and has successfully hosted small and senior dogs in our home. We do ask that your dog is generally comfortable around cats. If needed, there is a designated separate space to ensure no direct contact. Your pet's stay Your dog will never be left unsupervised. I work from home full-time as a consultant and freelance photographer, meaning I am present in the home all day, every day — not just checking in between errands. As a freelance photographer, the photo updates I send are a cut above — past clients have liked them so much they've had them professionally printed and framed. You deserve to see your furry family member happy and thriving while you're away, and I'll make sure of it.

Scarlett has watched our dog twice now and we adore her! She is very responsive, flexible and always provides regular updates throughout the day. It’s so nice knowing when leave our dog has a place that feels like home away from home!

I was in DC for work and Scarlett took my dog Nili for an overnight and a day of dog sitting. Nili had a great time, she was so excited to see Scarlett when she was picked up the second time. I received lots of pictures and updates throughout the days. Would definitely recommend!

I cannot recommend Scarlett enough. My pup has the BEST time with her and Lassie. His tail is always wagging when he comes see her for his regular daycare. Scarlett’s communication is excellent and I really love all the pictures and video updates she sends throughout the day. She makes sure your pup has a great balance of walks, enrichment, and rest throughout the day. I can see how she really takes the care to love your pup like her own. I couldn’t be happier, thank you Scarlett!!

Scarlett sent tons of photos and made me feel comfortable that Winston was eating and getting exercise the whole time he was with her. Good experience!
