Walks and Snuggles in East Van
My sweet pug crossed the rainbow bridge 2 years ago. She was in my life for 14.5 years, from when she was a puppy. I’m not ready to adopt yet, but enjoy having cats and dogs in my home for short term boarding. I have a flexible work schedule, and am able to stop at home during my shift if needed. Cats enjoy staying with me because the bird watching out my patio window is second to none. Dogs love all the great parks and walking areas near me. All furry guests get showered in love, and are welcome to sleep in my bed. I generally want to vet bigger dogs before they stay- they must be house trained and not destructive. I’m physically strong, have good instincts around dog body language, and am not afraid to overpower bigger dogs if they get wild.

Sarah has been a wonderful sitter to our elderly dog. She's been friendly, flexible, and happy to send me updates throughout the stay. I wholeheartedly recommend her!
Sarah has taken care of Jekyll and Hyde on numerous occasions for me now. She loves them just as if they were here own, which is one of the many reasons why I trust her with my boys. She also provides me with daily updates which always include a couple cute photos. They love going to aunty Sarah’s!

Schedule
I work graveyard shifts three nights a week. On those nights I’m out of the house for 8 hours, however my job is mobile so I can stop by if a pee break is needed. On night shift days, I typically do a walk and feeding in the morning after work, then another after I sleep (early evening). On days that I don’t work, I’m rarely out of my house for more than 3-4 hours at a time. Taking a lengthy walk, and/or spending time at the dog park is something I look forward to.

Safety, trust & environment
I live in a one bedroom apartment, with a rooftop deck. For the safety of the pets, I don’t allow them out there without supervision. I have a mid sized pet bed next to my patio window where your pet can lounge and birdwatch. Pets are welcome to sleep or lounge on my bed.
A typical day
I typically do two outings a day, plus shorter pee breaks. There’s a fantastic dog park near me, and I have friendships with the local canines and their humans. I also know all the dog friendly businesses with treats in my area, and make a point of visiting them. If your dog has good recall and is fairly mellow, I’ll let them wander in the off leash area. I’ve done so with younger/wilder dogs too, but the leash stays attached so I can wrangle them quickly if needed. Sometimes I’ll make plans with friends who drive and have dogs, and we’ll go to dog beaches. If you’ve got a smaller dog, I might put them in a carrying bag I own and take them on an excursion.

- Dogs must be housetrained, reasonably quiet, and non destructive. If it’s a bigger/heavier dog, must be ok with stairs (I can carry little dogs up and down if needed). I’m ok with giving oral medicine if there’s a food I can wrap the pills in. I’ve also administered eye drops and nasal medication. I have experience doing intramuscular injections on humans, and could probably do it on a pet if the pet can sit still enough. I can take up to 3 pets if they are from the same household or are friends.
