Home-from-home with my pup 🐶

Hi there! I’m Sarah. I’m originally from Bucks, and after eight years in London, my husband and I now call Leighton Buzzard home. I’ve always loved dogs and have spent years looking after family and friends’ dogs, including golden retrievers, labradors, spaniels and cockapoos. More recently, we’ve welcomed our own Golden Retriever puppy, Snoop, which has taught me so much more about dogs, puppy development and training. We’ve put lots of time into positive training, socialisation, enrichment, loose-lead walking, recall and helping him learn how to switch off and settle as well as play. Any dog staying with us would be looked after alongside Snoop. He absolutely LOVES other dogs and can be very excited when he first meets them, but after the initial excitement he settles down really well and is very happy relaxing alongside another dog for the rest of the day. For that reason, we’re best suited to dogs who enjoy the company of other dogs too. I work from home, so your dog will have plenty of company and won’t be left alone for long periods. We also have a secure, fully fenced garden where the dogs can safely potter, play and have toilet breaks throughout the day. One of the biggest things I’ve learnt from having Snoop is how important it is to get the balance right. I love making sure dogs have plenty of exercise, sniffing, play, training and mental stimulation, but I’m equally conscious that dogs need lots of calm time and proper rest. I’ll always adapt the day to your dog’s age, personality, routine and energy levels rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether your dog loves a good walk, enrichment games, training, cuddles or simply snoozing on the sofa, I’ll do my best to make them feel completely at home. Their health, safety and happiness will always be my number one priority, and I’ll treat them exactly as I’d want someone to treat Snoop. I also know how reassuring it is to hear how your dog is getting on when you’re away, so I’m very happy to send regular updates and plenty of photos. If you think we might be a good fit, please drop me a message and tell me a little about your dog - their personality, routine, how they are around other dogs and anything else that will help me make sure they have the happiest and most comfortable stay possible. I’m looking forward to meeting you and your pup!

Sarah was such a pleasure to meet and so good with animals. I felt very lucky to have her in the house and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her.

Sarah is an attentive and caring sitter who was keen to make sure our cocker spaniel Mille was properly loved! Millie was so comfortable and happy in Sarah's home, I would highly recommend!

Sarah was great with my rescue bulldog, he can grump and stubborn and Sarah had great control and Rolo took a shining to her instantly! Sarah was on time and sent me updates throughout the day. Thank you from me and Rolo

Schedule

I work from home most of the week, so dogs in my care get lots of company, attention and flexibility throughout the day. I can adapt walks, feeding, toilet breaks, play and rest around your dog’s normal routine. I’m also happy to accommodate pick-ups/drop-offs where possible. Your dog would spend the day alongside my Golden Retriever puppy, Snoop, so they’ll have plenty of company as well as lots of opportunity for calm downtime.

Safety, trust & environment

Your dog’s safety, comfort and happiness are always my priority. We have a fully fenced garden and I supervise dogs carefully, particularly around play, feeding and settling. Having my own puppy has taught me a huge amount about dog behaviour, positive training, enrichment and the importance of helping dogs switch off as well as keeping them stimulated. I’ll follow your dog’s usual routine as closely as possible and tailor their care to their age, personality, confidence and energy levels.

Pets

A typical day

A typical day is a balance of exercise, enrichment, play and plenty of rest. We’ll usually start with a walk or some outdoor time, often in Rushmere, with lots of sniffing and opportunities for mental stimulation. I'm happy to have your dog off the lead if they have solid recall, or I can keep them on the lead or a long line. Back at home there might be play with Snoop, enrichment games, a little training or cuddles, followed by proper calm time and naps. I make sure they have time to settle and relax too. Everything is adapted to your dog’s usual routine and energy levels.

Please let me know as much as you can about your dog’s personality, routine and needs, including how they are around other dogs. Snoop absolutely loves other dogs and can be excited when they first meet, although he settles down well afterwards, so dogs staying with us need to be comfortable around a friendly, playful young Golden Retriever. It’s also really helpful to know about feeding routines, recall, lead walking, sleep habits, any anxieties or triggers, resource guarding, medical needs and anything else that helps your dog feel safe and settled.
