Safety, trust & environment
My first priority is working around the routine you normally keep, as I think this provides a good emotional anchor for your pet, especially when their favorite person is away. That being said, I am more than happy to introduce your pet to new walking paths, parks, and enrichment items.
Information Sarah D. would like to know about your pet
Outside of their regular routine, feeding, and bathroom schedule and tendencies, it will be helpful for me to know their general energy level, their desire level for human interaction (are they a snuggler, or do they prefer to keep their distance with new acquaintances), how good they are on a leash, and if they have separation anxiety and any symptoms that arise from that. I'm happy to administer medications for pets, please let me know ahead of time of the need and the routine you use to administer the medications. I'm also happy to coordinate a call or in person meeting prior to booking to ensure the proper procedure. Please also let me know if your pet is reactive to people or other animals, so I can make sure I avoid settings where they may be overstimulated. I'm pretty open to working with animals of all temperaments and need types; the more I know ahead of time, the more I can ensure a serene and joyful experience for your pet :)
A typical day
Each animal is different, and I'd like to tune into the natural instincts and interests of your animal, whether that means co-lounging, or going for extended walks to explore new places. I'm happy to curate a daily routine that meets their needs, and can work with you to design a plan fit the lifestyle you're looking for. Activities include: - Creating layered enrichment toys with treats or safe scents for them to explore and investigate - Games of tag, keep away, or "hide and seek" - Excursions to dog parks and nature trails - Low-energy dedicated human interaction time - pets, scratches, light grooming, co-habitating, chit chatting, singing for relaxation (worked well for my anxious tiger friend, Karen) - The classic *fetch* :) - Any other activities your pet likes that I haven't listed

Pet care experience
I'm an animal lover by nature and by profession - I grew up on a farm with sheep, chickens, cats and dogs, and spent several years in the zoo keeping field taking care of big cats, bears, birds, and reptiles. In between, I've acted as house and pet sitter and dog walker for short-(weekend) and long-(2 weeks) term engagements. I've worked with animals of varying species and ages, from puppy/kittenhood to the golden years, and have taken care of animals with varying medical statuses, reactivity, and separation anxiety levels. I'm happy to work with you to understand any needs your pet has and ensure my skills and experience are a good match for their needs. My approach involves being a calming, non-disruptive presence before anything else, and working with the rhythms, routines, and natural interests of your pet. I develop my relationship with each animal the same way I do with each human I meet, through respect and consistency. Species Experience: Dog breeds: Pomeranian, Habanese, bloodhound, Belgian Malinois, German shepherd, poodle, husky, lab and all kinds of mixes Avian species: Chickens, pigeons, cockatiels, lorikeets, birds of prey, and many other exotic breeds. Minimal experience with parrots, but open to working with them! Reptile species: American box turtle, red eared slider, corn snake, ball python, bearded dragon. I'm not afraid of dead mice or mealworms, but I try to minimize my interactions with live crickets and other insects that jump :) If you have an animal I have not listed, don't hesitate to reach out, I love working with animals and am open to working with new species.
Reviews
Sarah D. cancelled a booking 1 day before it was scheduled to begin.

Repeat. Already reserved for our next vacation. Will continue to reserve. Dependable, great communication, flexible.

I highly recommend Sarah. She is very reliable and respectful. She’s very gentle with my dog. She goes above and beyond the call of duty.

We just had Sarah watch our two dogs in our home for the second time and she was absolutely fantastic! One of our dogs recently hurt his leg and she went above and beyond administering his medication, walking him on a leash in our backyard, and keeping a close eye on him. Would 1000% recommend Sarah!
