- Bennett (Doberman Pinscher, German Shepherd Dog & Mixed) 2 years, 1 month old in Washington, DC
Bennett is a rescue pup with lots of playful energy. She loves cuddling and being around people, and has yet to meet a dog she hasn’t loved. There’s nothing she loves more than being wrapped up in a burrito to nap. OTHER DOGS Bennett is great with other dogs of all sizes from tiny puppies, 10 lb pugs to 100+ lbs, and generally submissive. The only shred of aggression she will show is if another dog tries to mount her, otherwise she’s nothing but friendly. CHILDREN Bennett loves people, but she hasn’t spent much time around kids. She either ignores them completely after a sniff or two, or is very shy and takes a while to warm up once they express any interest in here. Most likely, they’ll get covered in kisses eventually if they persist in trying to get her attention. TRAINING / COMMANDS She “knows” ... sort of :) - “sit” with a finger snap — also when on leash, pulling the leash directly up is also a signal to her to sit - “down” accompanied by pointing at the ground, - “stay” with a palm out to her in a stop signal, - “Ok” to release her from a wait command to let her eat - “off” with a push of her head down if she’s jumped up already (not “down”!) - “stay off” if she looks like she’s going to jump, - “leave” if she’s sniffing or mouthing something she shouldn’t, - “Potty” when she goes outside to ask her to pee We’re working on... - “Heel” said when on a slack leash with her sitting on my left side as I take a step forward to keep her walking at my side not pulling on the leash - “Come” — she knows what it means but is opinionated about when to follow my command. Much more likely to obey with a REALLY good treat, but isn’t always food motivated.
