Ten Years of Rover Sitting!

We are an active family who would love to care for your dogs when you are away. We are looking to establish a few regulars where we are familiar with the dogs and in return they feel comfortable in our care. We enjoy vacations ourselves and understand that peace-of-mind comes when you know your babies are cared for and thus enhancing your ability to enjoy your vacation. On weekdays, drop off/pick up is ~4:30-9pm. On weekends and holidays, we can be flexible with drop off/pick up. Enjoy your vacation! We send photo/s daily and your dogs will return to you happy and healthy. Why I love dog sitting My husband grow up with fondest memories of his first dog "Suzy." We love to walk. Our sons have grown up with Rover dogs since they were all born -- we had Rover dogs visiting when I brought each home from the hospital. We have been so fortunate to share most holidays with dogs and its a special part of our lives. They are part of our family. Walks We have no other pets. Your dogs will be out five times each day - three walks and two potty breaks. About my yard We do NOT have a fenced yard. We go on walks. Your Pup must be leash trained because leashed walks are our method for your Pup's exercise. If you don't walk your dog often, then he/she is probably not leash trained. If your dog pulls or strains at the end of their leash, then they are not leash trained. I am 150lbs and do not want to be pulled down - it is very important that I be capable of comfortably walking your Pup or our family will not be a good fit for your Pup. My experience administering medication Absolutely. We are prepared to give pills (bring cheese or Pill Pockets or other treat if needed), topical lotions, or an injection just depending on what your dog needs. We are not squeamish. Please bring the treat of your dog's choice to make sure we are giving approved treats to get medicine down.

Sara took great care of our 2 girls! She took them on lots of walks, provided us with frequent updates and photos, and was quick to respond to any of our questions.

Sara and her family did an excellent job taking care of our 1 yr old pup. This was our longest time apart from her and we’re thankful for such great care. Sara’s daily pic/video updates were very reassuring and brought us a smile. At pick up, our dog seemed very happy and well rested.

Schedule

We no longer accept dogs without a meet and greet. Please plan your time away to allow enough time for a meet and greet. Also be aware that after a meet and greet, you or we may decide we are not a good fit. We highly recommend having a couple Rover sitters who you can reach out to if one is away or if you have a preference. We are perfectly fine being just the back-up Rover sitter. We no longer accept anxious Pups. Since we started sitting 10 years ago, we now have 3 kids and our large family does not fit well with anxious dogs that require persistent attention. We need to be capable of running errands, attend kid b-day parties, etc. Thus, your Pup must be able to be alone for 2-4hr (max) so that we can have family time or attend an event. Your dog MUST be able to be alone for up to 4 hrs because my husband and I both work full time. My husband does have a more flex schedule and will work from home 2 days a week. In the summer, the kids are around the house (except for activities at the park, library, etc.) and during school months, our au pair is also around. Despite how much we are around the house, your Pup does must be capable of being alone without barking, clawing, chewing, anxiety urinating or any other negative behavior. After 10 yrs of dog sitting, we no longer wish to sit for or manage severely anxious Pups.

Safety, trust & environment

We offer basic dog sitting, no fuss. All animals are part of our family. It's really that simple. We have a small house, thus, they are usually in just a couple rooms where your Pup will also hang out with us. Some dogs need a break (with 3 boys we are likely louder than the average home). A dog can lay under the table to catch a break and still be around us. We don't spoil in a negative way and don't give treats that you don't provide. We want to ensure we don't send your dog home with any bad habits or a digestive problem.

A typical day

Your dog's sleeping arrangement Your dog will sleep in the living room on their dog bed, on the rug, or in their crate. Regardless of where they sleep, we do like that you bring their dog bed and crate to our house - if they use either. It is possible your dog may never use or need either, however these items may provide your dog with familiar comfort and smells while you are away. We want to ensure we continue your training habits, please inform us of what those habits are. Such as, if you do not want your dog jumping, on the sofa, begging, etc. It is important to us that your dog return to you happy, but also on his/her best behavior. Time I'll spend with your dog My husband and I both work, but my husband has a flexible work schedule. My husband does work from home 2 days a week and he will do the midday potty break on those days. We also do the dog care and walking, with the kids joining us for walks or helping me with feedings. That's three walks - in the morning, after work, and before bedtime; and two potty breaks (around 8am and then noon). We do not have a fenced yard. We only walk our visiting Pups. We have a 1 mile loop and a 1/2 mile loop that we take 3 times a day (early morning, afternoon, before bed). Which loop we take will depend on the energy of your Pup. This is where ensuring that your dog comfortably walks on a leash is important because a mile loop may take 25min and I want to be able to comfortably walk this without yanking and pulling. We also provide up to 2 potty breaks. All the above assumes your dog needs lots of exercise. We do care for senior dogs and provide slower or shorter walks.

We have become more restrictive to ensure that we can continue to provide service on Rover: We do not accept un-neutered male/female dogs. We do not accept anxious dogs. We do not accept dogs that can NOT be left alone for 2-4hrs. We do not accept dogs that bark, "mark" in the house, have incontinence, submissive pee, claw/scratch doors/moulding, chew furniture, etc. Please remember that your Pup is a guest and these behaviors damage our home. We no longer sit for dogs that do not like other dogs. We may sit for more than one dog -- particularly on holiday weekends. We cannot risk safety of any dog or person. If you are not sure if your dog likes other dogs because they have not been socialized yet, I am still willing to have a meet and greet. However, this is different than if your dog has had aggression toward other dogs or people. If you have a create, bring your crate. We may not use it, but the crate gives them comfort. We do not use the crate as punishment, but reward crate usage with a treat or peanut butter. When you book with us, we cannot guarantee your dog will be the only one, particularly around holidays.
