Pet care experience

Can I pet that dog?

I’ll probably remember your dog’s name before I remember yours. It’s nothing personal. I’ve had animals for most of my life and currently have three dogs and a cat of my own. Over the years, I’ve raised puppies, cared for a senior dog through his golden years, and become comfortable administering medications and caring for animals with different needs and personalities. One of my current dogs is reactive to other dogs, so managing reactivity is also a normal part of my everyday life. I understand the extra planning and attention that can come with it, from reading body language and watching for triggers to managing the environment and keeping everyone safe. Mostly, I just really love animals. I go to the National Dog Show every year and visit local shelters in my free time. I’m no longer allowed to foster because that’s how I kept ending up with more dogs and cats of my own, so visiting is the safer option. I’ll probably remember your dog’s name before I remember yours. It’s nothing personal. I’ve had animals for most of my life and currently have three dogs and a cat. My current crew includes a Malinois and a Shepherd, and one of our dogs is also a therapy K-9, so I’m comfortable with larger, high-energy dogs as well as dogs accustomed to more structured routines. I’ve always loved the little ones too. My Pomeranian was my senior girl, and caring for her gave me plenty of experience with the extra attention older pets can need. I’ve also raised puppies and am comfortable giving medications. One of my dogs is reactive to other dogs, so I understand firsthand what that requires. Reading body language, watching our surroundings, managing triggers, and keeping animals safely separated when needed are all normal parts of my day. Mostly, I just really love animals. I go to the National Dog Show every year and visit shelters in my free time. I’m not allowed to foster anymore because that’s how I kept ending up with more pets of my own. I also have a flexible schedule and reliable transportation, so I’m often available for same-day or last-minute visits. If a meeting runs late, date night goes a little longer than planned, or you realize you’ll be away longer than expected, feel free to reach out. I know pet care doesn’t always come with much notice, and I’m happy to help when I can.Outside of caring for my own pets, animals are genuinely a big part of my life. I attend the National Dog Show every year and even enjoy spending my free time visiting local shelters. I’d love to foster, but I know I’d have a hard time not bringing everyone home! Rover gives me the opportunity to meet, care for, and build relationships with more animals while still sending them home to their own families at the end of the day. I know every pet has their own personality, and that’s part of what I enjoy about getting to know them. Whether your pet is outgoing, shy, senior, still learning the ropes, or needs a little extra space around other animals, I’m happy to meet them where they are and help them feel comfortable while you’re away.

Safety, trust & environment

Safety and attention to detail are a big part of how I care for my own pets. One of my dogs is reactive to other dogs, so I’m used to managing separate spaces, being careful with doors and gates, watching our surroundings on walks, and paying close attention to body language. That level of awareness has become second nature to me, and I bring the same care to every animal, whether they need that extra level of management or not. I’m also careful to follow each owner’s routines, instructions, and boundaries, because you know your pet best. I bring that same level of care to every pet, even if they don’t require quite as much management. I’ll follow your routines and instructions closely and never assume that something is okay just because it works for another animal. Whether it’s feeding, medications, walks, crates, separate spaces, or simply knowing which door needs to stay closed, I want you to feel confident that the details you give me will actually be followed.

Sam was a great option for my pets while at work. She was super reliable and always on time. I have a reactive dog as well and she worked really well with him understanding how hyper he could be. I was also able to contact her for a last minute drop in which she was able to help me with. Very helpful.

Samantha has been a friend of our family for a few years and has watched our dogs for us before. She’s always been really good with them, and honestly, she just loves animals. She’s the person who notices the dog before she notices the people when she walks into a room. I’ve seen her with her own pets too, and they are her family. They’re truly the center of her world, and she takes the absolute best care of them. She’s always thinking about what they need and making sure they’re happy and taken care of. I’ve never had to worry about leaving our dogs with her, and I’d absolutely trust her with them again.

Schedule

I work from home, which gives me a lot of flexibility throughout the day. It’s easy for me to step away for a walk or drop-in, and I’m often available on short notice. Whether you’re stuck in a late meeting, heading out for date night, or just need someone to check in during a long day away, I can usually work a visit into my schedule. Plus, I’m always happy for an excuse to get away from my desk and hang out with an animal for a while.

The more I know about your pet ahead of time, the better! Please let me know about any medications, medical conditions, behavioral concerns, sensitivities, or triggers I should be aware of. I’d also love to know their normal routine and any little quirks, preferences, or comforts that might help them feel more at ease while you’re away. For drop-in visits, I prefer an in-home meet-and-greet beforehand when possible. It gives your pet a chance to meet me with you there and gives me a chance to learn their routine and where everything is before I’m caring for them on my own. For everyone’s safety, I do ask that pets be current on their rabies vaccination.
