I'm a retiree who does part-time volunteer work, both hands-on with elementary-school-aged children and legislative and policy advocacy on behalf of folks with intellectual and developmental disabilities. My other major activities are staying in shape and learning a foreign language. These part-time gigs, and the fact that my wife works part-time, leave me enough time to do some pet care.

About Sam F.

Safety, trust & environment
I cannot care for pets in my home, or for that matter have a dog, because the condo development where I live does not permit dogs. I care for dogs in their owner's homes, following their owners' lead, so to speak, and according to their owners' directives. Fortunately, this means that the dogs I care for, who know their way around their own turf, do not need to adjust to new environs. As a guest myself, I am naturally inclined to treat the home where I find myself with extra care and respect, more so than I would my own home.
Information Sam F. would like to know about your pet
I will of course want to know any special conditions or limitations, behavioral tendencies, things not to do, whether and what to feed your dog. I will also want to have an emergency contact number for you and any directions you might want followed should an unexpected emergency arise.
A typical day
Depending on your dog's druthers and what you want, I'll be happy to do do the following with your dog: walking (of course), trotting, petting, scratching, massaging, playing such games as fetch, chase, hide & seek, etc., cuddling, walking, trotting, relaxing together .

Pet care experience
I've worked via Rover for about fiver months (as of early May '26) -- during which time I've had many pleased recurring and one-time customers, have cared for a wide range of dogs, from a massive greyhound to an uncharacteristically aggressive male lab to a 20-year-old miniature requiring careful TLC. Prior to Rover, I've taken care of two family dogs who became family members, one of which I rescued from a neglectful owner. I was a hands-on dad to my son (now grown), got him the care he needed to survive and thrive as a preemie, and as a single parent knew well how to feed and change him and care for him when he was sick. As a senior, I have the experience and "seasoning" to know what's important, whether it's an infant or child or a family dog or a person with a disability or a senior like myself, and, then, how to see to it that the one in my care is well cared for, happy, and loved. Since the condo development where my wife and I live doesn't allow dogs, I take special pleasure in spending time with them at every opportunity. I come from a long line of dog lovers on my dad's side, and I proudly carry on that tradition. I keep as active as the vicissitudes of age allow, and currently am able to hike, play pickleball, and return to tennis and 5K runs, with kayaking "on deck." That fitness enables me to have what it takes to care for dogs of all ages and stages.
Reviews

Sam was quick to respond to all my questions and concerns. He introduced himself and asked for specifics about my girl, he was attentive to what she needed while assuring they were a good fit for their long walk together…and they were! He was great! Thanks again Sam!

I can’t say enough about the diligence and care that Sam provides for Clyde. He walks him daily and also babysat him for 5 days while I traveled for work (in my home). He connects with Clyde so well. I thank God everyday for his help! What a gem. Thank you, Sam!

We can't say enough wonderful things about Sam. We'd give him a 10 if that was possible! He took such great care of our dog, Cooper. This is the first time in 6+ years, since we got Cooper, that we've ever been away from him overnight, let alone a weekend as we just were. Sam communicated after each visit and sent us pictures, as well. We highly recommend you book him for your dog-sitting needs

Sam was a great fit for our dog walking needs. He provided clear communication and updates. Our dog really enjoyed her walks and pets! Highly recommend Sam!!
