Local, Queer-Friendly Pet Care

Hi! My name is Sailor and I'm a recent graduate from UMass Amherst. I have a ton of experience with dogs and cats, having grown up in a multi-pet household, volunteered on and off at animal shelters for a couple of years, worked an internship caring for the aquariums and vivariums at the Berkshire Museum, and provided pet care through Rover since 2018. When I was younger, I got along with animals better than I got along with people, and so now I am very good at reading and understanding animal body language. I will be fast friends with your dog or cat. Furthermore, my internship at the Berkshire Museum taught me to care for aquariums, reptiles, and amphibians. So if you have reptiles, amphibians, or fish and need care for them along with your dog or cat - I'm your guy. I have experience with administering medications as well. In previous bookings, I have administered pills, injections, and eye drops to dogs and cats. I also have a lot of experience with animals who are more anxious or timid, as well as with senior animals. SAME DAY BOOKING POLICY: Life happens and I understand that sometimes you need a walker or a sitter last minute. That said, at this time I am only able to accommodate same day requests if they are located in Northampton, Amherst, or Florence. Thank you for your understanding. MEET AND GREET POLICY: Because I am a mobility aid user, I will need to do a meet and greet before taking your pup on a walk. I need to be sure that your dog is going to be comfortable with walking around my mobility aid. In my experience, most dogs do seem to understand, but I do like to be sure before accepting a booking. COVID POLICY: If you have tested positive for COVID within the past ten days or if you are feeling any symptoms of illness, please wear a mask during the meet and greet. I will also be masking if I am feeling ill and will request to reschedule a meet and greet if I have tested positive. Thank you for your consideration.

Sailor did a fantastic job watching our husky over a weekend. Their communication was excellent, with lots of updates. Will absolutely hire Sailor again for overnights in the future. Thank you Sailor!

Sailor was very communicative and patient with my very scared Chihuahua. They were so chill even when my baby had some accidents. I really appreciated their calm energy for my nervous dog.

Dog Walking • Sep 16, 2024

Sailor brought my dog on a short walk where she did potty. When Sailor left, they were unable to lock our door, which is fine because it is a difficult door to lock and they notified me, however when I returned both the door and storm door were ajar. The dogs crate was closed but not locked so she did brake out of it when I entered the home. We also have a cat so the amount of doors left open is a huge safety issue for me so we will not be recommending Sailor.

Sailor was communicative and responsible, letting us know the dogs had settled in after we left. He followed our requests and even crocheted two collars for our dogs--a lovely parting gift.

Sailor did a great job giving my cat his medications and giving both cats some time outside on the deck. Sailor kept good communication, sent alot of pictures. They did everything I asked of them.

Calendar and availability

Schedule

My schedule is currently very open as I am still in the market for a post-graduation job. As such, I am able to accommodate most requests with enough advance notice.

Where your pet will stay

Safety, trust & environment

When house sitting I do my best to keep to whatever schedule your pets already live with, since being cared for by somebody else can be a tough adjustment. As a rule, I do not let cats or dogs outside unsupervised (and prefer to not let cats outside at all). I will also contact you or an emergency contact if anything seems to be amiss with your pet’s health.

A typical day

I will most likely go on walks that remain in proximity to a client's household. In the event that a dog is able to hike, I may try to find nearby trails and wooded areas. When sitting, I will play fetch with the dog, and also offer fun treat puzzles for if I have to go out. And of course, I will give belly rubs. For cats, I prefer to follow whatever schedule they are accustomed to. Because cats are more particular, activities are based on what they seem to want. For some cats, this just means hanging out in the same space as them while they watch the birds out the window. For others, this means cuddling for hours or fast paced play with a laser pointer.

In order to accept a booking, I need to know about what vet you use for your furry friends as well as the name and phone number for at least one local emergency contact. I also prefer to know if there are any special needs regarding care. How much your dog gets fed, if your pet needs frequent brushing, if your pet needs medications, any dietary restrictions your pet may have, etc. are all useful pieces of information. I have no breed preferences. I have experience with dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
