I am currently furlough from my fulltime job as a botanist and I'm spending a lot of time with my own dog, Nelly, and Australian Shepherd. We go on daily hikes, skis, or bike rides. Usually we do this mid-day to early evening. I'm looking to take another dog on our outings to help Nelly burn some of her puppy energy.

I am skilled at reading dog's body language and trying to match my interactions with their needs. I give them space if they indicate they want it, and I will be affectionate with them is they show they like it. I am competent at caring for old dogs since I had one pass away in my life two years ago, and I can tailor activities to their energy levels. Same goes for dogs of different breeds and sizes.

Any behavioral issues that will impact our ability to adventure, like agression towards dogs or people, inability to come or listen, won't stay with you on the trail, chases wildlife, etc. If I am watching a dog overnight, I will need to know about medical issues and any medications they are taking. I'd also like to know if your dog is in heat or is unneutered.

My dog Nelly is my best adventure friend and we do a ton of outdoor activities together. I have taken her backcountry skiing, cross country skiing, rafting, packrafting, hiking, backpacking and mountain biking. She is game for all of it and loves being my side kick outside. Our proudest send together was Silver Couloir last may. WIth other people's dogs, I need talk them on walks or hikes to understand what they are capable of physically and how well trained they are to come on higher intensity activities. If I am spending time with your dog, I will ask you about their normal activity levels.

Pet care experience
Hello, My name is Sage and I have a long history of taking care of dogs. I grew up with Samoyeds, Chows, Irish Wolfhounds, Catahoulas and Basenjis. My parents owned a small ranch in the mountains above Boulder, CO. I was raised as a ranch girl in the mountains and I learned how to take care of many different species of animals, such as chickens, dogs, horses, cows, parrots, cats, pigs and rabbits. After my upbringing on the ranch, I went to college and I worked seasonally for many years as a field biologist but was unable to have a dog of my own due to the uncertain nature of my work and a lot of time spent away from home. It wasn't until I met my husband seven years ago that I was able to have another dog in my life. I agreed to the first date with my husband only because he had a very beautiful blue merle Australian Shepherd named Rocky, who I fell in love with immediately. Rocky was eleven when I met him and was the best adventure buddy, but he slowed down two years later and passed away at 15. He was a funny combination of incredibly sweet and a bit snarky. He was quite specific about how he wanted to be touched, so he taught me a lot about boundaries and caring for an old dog. A year and a half ago my husband and I adopted Nelly, a very energetic red merle Australian Shepherd who is full of fun. She is my adventure side kick on ski outings, paddling trips, hikes and mountain bike rides. She is very smart and well trained, and we go everywhere together. We are looking for dog friends to accompany us on our outings since it is a fast way for Nelly to burn through some of her exuberant energy. Besides Australian Shepherds, I'm comfortable with dogs of all sizes since I've been around many different breeds and mixes. Besides growing up with dogs, I spent a year in Seattle working in dog care on Rover and for a private trainer, so I got to spend time with all sorts of dogs. I have lived with two Cane Corsos (Italian Mastiffs), who taught me a lot about personal space and the body language of large dogs. I've also lived with Basenjis, a small and lively African breed (who have no personal space). So I'm familiar with the needs of small energetic dogs as well as lazy large dogs. Thank you for looking at my profile and for considering me to spend time with your dog!
Reviews
Bella loved her time with Sage. Sage did a great job of caring for Bella and was very flexible in drop off time. I would definitely ask Sage to watch Bella again in the future.

Nice folks and they did a great job of keeping my dog comfortable during the great Seattle heat wave of 2016.

Sage was great. Super flexible with out flight schedule for drop off and pick up. She sent pictures along the way so we're sure Goose had tons of fun. We would definitely use her again for our next trip if needed.

Sage and her fiancé were great! Our wheaten terrier had a great stay with them and they were able to deal with all of his quirks
