Full-Time, Safe, Personal Care 🥰

Hi, I'm Sage. 👋 I board, walk, and train dogs in Bend – all breeds, all sizes, calm or reactive. 🦮 I’m a full time professional and owner of Sage Dogs since 2022, having previously worked at a leading training company. I offer personalized care tailored to your dog’s needs. Dog safety is my top priority. 🦺 My home faces a peaceful nature preserve, and I take only one client dog at a time.🌲 I was raised with dogs and have always had dogs in my life. When I adopted my first dog of my own—a Labrador/Pit Bull mix—I committed to consistent training from the day I brought him home. I successfully worked through his reactivity toward bicycles and overexcitement around other dogs, and he can now calmly walk past a variety of distractions. After seeing videos of his training, the leading dog-training company in Santa Barbara hired me as an Assistant Trainer. I learned how to confidently handle dogs with a wide range of breeds, personalities, energy levels, and behaviors, including shy, highly excitable, and reactive dogs. I gained hands-on experience with leash walking, recall, basic obedience, impulse control, and safe handling. Every dog is different. 🐾 I take the time to learn your dog's routine, personality, triggers, and comfort level, so I can provide care that is both safe and enjoyable. Your dog's safety is always my top priority. For walks, I focus on structured exercise, enrichment, and good leash manners. I generally avoid on-leash greetings with unfamiliar dogs and people, which helps prevent unnecessary interactions and keeps walks calm and controlled. I also never let dogs off leash in unsecured areas. When appropriate, I can use a 15-foot long line to give your dog additional freedom to explore safely. I can also incorporate basic training into walks, drop-in visits, and boarding, including leash skills, recall, focus, and general obedience. Whether your dog needs a long walk, an energetic hike, a exploration “sniff-ari”, a relaxing drop-in visit, or some extra training and enrichment, I will treat them like part of my family. I want every dog in my care to come home happy, exercised, mentally stimulated, and well cared for. I look forward to meeting you and your pup! 🥰

She was great with Maya! Maya is a cuddle bug and needs couch snuggles, particularly when she's anxious from being left alone, and Sage delivered. She kept me apprised of how Maya was doing, including after Maya made herself sick from something she ate (she's a roadside trash goblin).

Sage has been walking Margot for a few years now and is AMAZING. 👏 Margot’s heel has improved so much. I used to not be able to walk her in public spaces out of fear of her pulling me or reacting to other dogs and now I’m able to walk her in some of the busiest of walkways and she stays in a heel. Sage is also a great communicator and always sends me a little blurb debriefing how the walk went that day. I highly recommend Sage if you want your pup in great hands!!

We have two dogs, one can be reactive and hyper focus and the other is timid and scared. We spent such a long time looking for someone who we could trust with both of them and who we felt truly cared for dogs of all breeds. We struck gold when we found Sage! I am a crazy dog mom as we like to call it and Sage ticks every box for me to feel comfortable and confident while our babies are out strolling around! She’s shares photos and gives in-depth details of the walkies! We were very lucky to have found her and highly HIGHLY recommend her to all!!

I was struggling for a while trying to figure out how to help my dog, he often pulled during walks and had reactivity towards other dogs while walking. He is a pretty shy and was nervous around people he didn’t know, so I was a little worried at first about training and how he would do with another person alone, but he seemed to instantly gravitate towards Sage. She worked with him individually for a little while and showed me the techniques to help him once I began training. I learned the proper techniques to teaching a heel and also gained more insight about why he was having reactivity on walks. After learning how to train more I started practicing with him and with a lot of work he really improved not only on his heel but he started to get excited meeting new dogs on walks.

Schedule

I am a dog trainer and boarder full-time, so I am home most of the day. Occasionally, I am out for up to an hour and a half at a time for errands or training sessions, but am never gone for more than 4 hours at a time which is my dog’s maximum alone time. Let me know your dog’s ability to be alone and I am more than willing to accommodate their specific needs.

Safety, trust & environment

When I visit your house for check-in's or walks, I first make sure your dog has enough water and food, and immediately take them outside to use the bathroom. If we are going on a walk, I confirm the leash and collar are secure and double-check that they are attached correctly before leaving the house. When leaving the house, I do not let your pet run out the door. I have them sit and wait until I am ready and I am sure there is nothing outside that we are not prepared for. During our walk, I make sure to watch where we are walking to ensure there are no hazards that could be stepped on, and stay vigilant to watch for any other dogs. I always cross the street or give plenty of room when I see another dog approaching so there is no issue when the dogs pass each other. When I get back to your house, I replenish any water that was consumed and give lots of love before leaving your pup. I also double-check that any doors or gates are securely fastened before leaving the premises.

A typical day

I love to mentally and physically tire out your pups! I go on long walks, have sniffy time, snugs on the couch and give plenty of mental stimulation. I have many mental enrichment toys to keep your pup happy throughout the day! I also like to do basic training and tricks to engage the mind and keep everybody tired!

Please let me know as much about your pup as possible. Including any medications needing to be provided, any quirks I should know about, and any reactivity towards anything we could encounter. I also like to know if your dog is nervous or over excited, if I should avoid anything specific on walks, if they have have any specific places they go to the bathroom, or anything else you think I should know that would keep them happy and safe.
