Availability

I can only watch your dogs on the day I work from home and on the weekend: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (Thursday with planning ahead of time). Your dog will have at least four guaranteed potty breaks throughout the day (for boarding service) as Mickey had potty breaks every three hours up until bed time. I’d give your dog the same level of care and attention that Mickey received. With your permission for outdoor activities in Spring/Summer, I could take your dog for an adventure in a doggie backpack—safe for dachshund’s back. The more information you provide me about your dog, the more I can adjust the activities.

***Drop off/Pick Up for Boarding: 8AM-8PM (weekday), 8AM-6PM (Friday-Sunday). ** Rover automatically applies an Extended Care rate for dog boarding/day care/house sitting if the pick-up time is significantly later than the drop-off time. *If you need to cancel any Booking, please do it at least seven (7) days before the booking to avoid penalty for you and for me from Rover. Please finish reading until the end as it includes important information. I will care for your dog in my comfortable, two-bedroom, two-bath apartment in a relatively safe street of Mount Vernon Triangle close to a park. My building is pet friendly and is equipped with elevators. As a former senior dog mom, I’m very alert and have a high attention to detail (e.g: pieces of glass, big dogs, traffic, dog waste, etc). My house is equipped with elevated dog bowls, dog gate, bathtub, fridge-filtered water, dog beds, Ruff ‘n Ruffus XL foldable playpen, Furbo dog camera, clean toys washed after every visit, dog carriers, and more—just let me know what your dog needs, and I’ll make sure she/he feels right at home! For a longer-term stay, I love instructions. The more details you give me, the better. I’m petite (5’1”), so I generally care for dogs between 16–30 lbs—think queen bed–friendly pups like corgis, beagles, and frenchies. 🐾 Dogs over 30 lbs may be accepted on a case-by-case basis, depending on their reviews, a Q&A with their pawrents, and an evaluation during a meet & greet. **New client** requests for stays longer than 4 nights require a daycare stay—for me to see how the dog behaves in my care and for the fur baby to get acclimated to my household especially if the dog never has 3 times 30-min walk with me. I currently turn off my doggy daycare option for new client, but I’ will make it available to you. I always allow the dogs on my bed. For a stay longer than four days, please bathe your fur baby a few days before drop off so he/she will feel clean and fresh during his stay with me. Most dogs are also more comfortable with their owners bathing them :) I always wiped my dog’s paws with dampened cloth/baby wipes after returning from a walk and I will do the same to yours. If your dog is not used to it, please desensitize them to paw cleaning a week before his/her stay. For your dog’s health and safety, all state-required vaccinations must be up to date. Dogs over four months old residing in the DC is required to have a license, with proof of rabies and distemper vaccinations and sterilization required for licensing.

Information Rut N. would like to know about your pet

If your dog has to take vitamins or medication, special diets, eye problems, health problems, his/her vet, and preferred emergency hospital—especially for senior dogs. Sharing your dog’s routine is so important so I can cater to his/her needs. • quirks (e.g: skittish) • if they are better crated during the day • feeding schedule and portion (e.g:1 cup/meal) • sleeping routine • morning routine • walk routine • what triggers she/he to bark (e.g: maintenance staff) • walk habit (e.g: pulling) • basic commands (e.g: it’s bed time) • your dog birthday so he/she can get special treatment on the special day! 🎊🎉🎂🥳 Cheers, Ruth Disclaimer: I may feature photos of your dog on my profile for marketing purposes. If you prefer your dog not to be included, please message me directly.

A typical day

I will try to match your dog’s energy and activity preferences. Let me know what fun activities you do with your dog—even if that just means lots of pets and snuggles! I honestly prefer not to leave your dog alone, but there are some cases where I have to be away (e.g: workout classes) so please let me know how to make your dog feel at home securely. I always make sure to walk your dog before leaving the house. If your dog is generally crated during the day at home so he/she can sleep and take a nap—please let me know. I have a foldable XL playpen that can make your dog feel secure while he/she takes a nap. If you think it’s better to bring your dog’s own crate, please do so.

Mickey’s Dachshund Hotel

Pet care experience

I’m here honoring my dog Mickey who lived to be 19.8 years old and brought me so much joy. He crossed the rainbow bridge in September 2024. I am open to all small breeds not heavier > 30 lbs, but I specialize in dachshunds and its mixes. Senior dogs and with special needs are very welcome! Since officially opening in May 2025, my pet hotel is perfect for pet parents traveling internationally on the weekend or taking extended long weekend such as weddings. Between paperwork, regulations, and constant check-ins, bringing pets along sometimes can be stressful and costly. Mickey was lucky as he always had family to care for him when I travelled abroad. Now, I want to offer that peace of mind to you. Your pup will be treated like a family member. I only board one dog a day unless they are from the same household. A FREE 15-min meet and greet is REQUIRED for all services. Please use this time to introduce me to your pet and tell me more about them. For dog walking, I would do a little walk test around the block with your pet. I only offer walks for new clients on the weekends now. For existing clients, I can check / walk your dogs in the evening only after 6pm.

Rut was absolutely phenomenal! I could sense her expertise from her well-crafted profile page. I have specific care instructions for my dog, and when I dropped him off before my trip, I noticed that Rut had already printed out the document to have a hard copy on hand. Throughout the day, she sent several updates with all the details I requested, confirming that she was diligently following my dog’s routine. Rut’s kindness and clear experience as a caregiver were evident in every interaction.

Rut has been wonderful! She sends lots of pictures and a detailed update after each visit, has been super patient with one of my dogs who is very shy, and been flexible for timing. So glad she does drop in visits for my three dogs!

Rut did an excellent job of making Enzi feel comfortable, which is no small feat since Enzi can get nervous. I will definitely be leaving Enzi with Rut again. Thank you, Rut!!
