Ruby was super nice and responsive during the booking process. We were really nervous because it was our first time leaving our pets with a sitter and we had someone else fall through so we had to book later than I would typically do. She came over the night before for a meet & greet and was very nice. We talked about her schedule a little and knew she had to work Friday. Our dogs are used to us working from home so we were a little nervous with them being in the crates that long but we had a friend come during the day and check on them and figured they just had to get through the day and since we had booked house sitting that after work they’d have the evening out and getting attention. Ruby stopped by before work for about 30 min, and then was nice and came by during her lunch for a few min, but then after work she was at our house for about 20 min and then left again. I was concerned about this and tried to reach out just to make sure she was planning to actually be at our house and spending time with them. I had mentioned they couldn’t be in their crates for longer than 5 hours, but she left them for 5 hours multiple times and only had them out for 20-30 min in between. We were on a trip for our first wedding anniversary and I was stressed and worried they had been in the crates longer than they ever had, basically 95% of the day. We had another friend come by while she was supposed to be watching them and then I continued to message and try to get clear on what plans she had and when she should be at the house with them to see if we needed to panic and get more friends to supplement. The last message she sent me stated she would be back in an hour or so. And then no additional message was sent and I just so happened to see on Rover that about 20 min later she cancelled the booking while it was already in progress, knowing we were out of state, that we had been nervous leaving them, and it was our wedding anniversary. At the time she had already been gone for a while and completely abandoned the dogs, which is unacceptable. My brother rushed over and stayed the night and my husband had to buy a plane ticket for the next morning and lose tons of money on plane and train tickets, hotel, and concert tickets. I was deeply disappointed with this behavior. I understand it was a last minute booking and appreciate she tried to make it work, but when I booked house sitting my expectation was that there would be care past three 20-30 min check ins. Again, I booked house sitting not check ins. I’m sure she’s been great in other instances, but our particular experience was scary & disappointing that she would cancel during an in progress booking without care if we could coordinate alternate care from being out of state.
