I will care for your pets as you do! It depends upon the individual pet and their usual routine - whether it's a cat that roams as they wish, a dog that has specific walk times, or anything in between. I trust that you know what is best for your pet, and will always to my best to minimise any disruption to their usual routine and lifestyle. I understand that some pets can find it stressful to be taken care of by a new person, and am always happy to do home visits ahead of your trip so that we can make sure that I am the right person to take care of your pet. I am also insured as a petsitter and dog walker, should any incidents occur.

As I usually crochet when sat on the sofa, please let me know if your pet has any history of eating stringy things - I will just leave my crochet at home to prevent any incidents. I appreciate as much information as possible about your pets' usual routine, likes and dislikes. I'd much rather know something, and end up not needing it, than need to know something I've not been told about!
A typical day
You, and perhaps more importantly, your pet, will decide how I keep them entertained. I enjoy walking, and even occasionally run (at a very slow pace). I'm used to going outside every half hour to throw a ball about. I really enjoy setting up interactive treat puzzles, and watching cats chase fishing-rod style toys - or whatever else they enjoy playing with. I always provide regular updates including photos, either through the Rover app, or through a WhatsApp group chat so that your family members can see updates too.

Pet care experience
I'm experienced in caring for both cats and dogs, and especially passionate about giving excellent care to older and/or medically complex pets. I love the wide variety in cat behaviour, whether they are happiest just existing in the same room, or sitting on my lap, I am always happy to take care of them. While I love all types of dogs, I'm best suited to dogs with less intensive exercise needs, such as smaller breeds or elder dogs. To give more information about my experience taking care of animals, I began with taking care of my neighbour's cat when they went on holiday. Even once her owners were back from holiday, we got into a routine where the cat would wait on the front doorstep every day for me to give her chin scritches. My interest in taking care of medically complex pets comes from personal experience, as my family dog suffered a spinal cord injury a few years ago. Luckily, after excellent vet care, he has an excellent quality of life and is very happy, just with shorter walks than before and regular pain-management medication. I'm very happy to take care of pets that need a little extra attention and support, whether that is with medication, toileting, pain management, and anything else your pet needs support with. I'm most comfortable house-sitting, as this guarantees your pet will receive love and care whenever they need it. I can also travel for drop-in visits and walks. I'll probably ask a lot of questions just to make sure their is minimal disruption to your pets regular lifestyle, and will of course send plenty of updates and photos while taking care of them.

We were very pleased with the care our two cats received. She looked after them overnight and took excellent care of both of them while we were away. Rowan looked after my dog, Kitsune, and provided exceptional care throughout. Kitsune has complex medication requirements, and Rowan confidently managed administering his medications while ensuring the process was as stress-free as possible for him. Kitsune can be reactive, but Rowan approached him with remarkable kindness, patience, and empathy. They respected his boundaries, accepted his behaviour without judgement, and handled him in a way that made him feel safe and understood. During periods of hot weather when walks were not suitable, Rowan took the time to provide enrichment activities to keep Kitsune mentally stimulated and help tire his brain out. They also worked hard to maintain his normal routines, which is incredibly important for his wellbeing. Rowan supported Kitsune's raw feeding diet and had no issues managing the preparation and feeding of his meals, including some of his particularly pungent favourite foods. Knowing that Rowan was attentive to both his physical and emotional needs gave me complete peace of mind. I would highly recommend Rowan to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, compassionate, and dedicated pet caregiver.
