Pet care experience

A dog's (or cat's) new best friend.

Hey, I’m Ross. I’ve been dog and cat sitting in the St. Louis area for the last 8 years. I’ve taken care of dogs and cats of all sizes and demeanors including all kinds of doodle mixes (big and small), Boston Terriers, Labradors, Chihuahuas, Gold Retrievers, Jack Russell Terriers, Great Pyrenees, Bulldogs, and many more. Most of my experience has been staying at my client’s houses for a few days up to a few weeks, doing middle-of-the-day check-ins, and doing some dog walks. I’ve been the preferred dog / cat sitter for a family of veterinarians for the last 8 years. They’ve had up to five dogs and a cat at one time. My long-time girlfriend and I also share our home with our beloved cat, Appa. My approach is to stick to my client’s pets’ routines as closely as possible and to have fun! Ultimately, the most important thing is keeping your pet safe, healthy, and comfortable, all the rest is just having a good time with your pet friends. I love getting outside, getting my steps in on long walks, and playing fetch, tug-of-war, chase the ping pong ball or whatever is your pet’s jam. Whenever I’m unable to pet sit for my clients, they often muse that it’s hard to find someone else trustworthy to look after their pets. I build trust by doing what I say I will, communicating frequently and consistently, asking questions (and being an active listener), and treating people’s pets like they’re my own. After all, I understand the anxiety that comes with leaving your pet in someone else’s hands, and I want my clients to feel like their pet sitter cares (close to) as much as they do.

We’ve booked Ross twice to walk our dog over a few days. He’s been reliable, arrives on time, and is sweet to our pup!

Ross took excellent care of Rocky, who can be a real challenge at times! He went above and beyond in keeping the house super clean and keeping my potted herbs watered during the extreme heat. So grateful to be able to travel in peace knowing everything will be handled in my absence.

Ross did an amazing job caring for our 2 dogs and our home while we were away. Our dogs are a 105lb senior and an 80lb 8-month old. Each have different foods and stamina and the older has medications, so not always the easiest! He was super communicative with updates and photos, always letting us know about even minor issues. We would 100% love to have Ross care for our dogs again.

Schedule

I have a fully remote job so I can work anywhere with an internet connection. The job offers a high level of flexibility and allows me to take periodic breaks throughout the day to tend to any of your pet's needs if I'm staying at your home. I'm also open to walks or check-ins on weekends or after 5pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Where your pet will stay

Home characteristics

Lives in a house
Has a fenced yard
Non-smoking household
Has 1 cat
No children present
Dogs not allowed on bed
Dogs not allowed on furniture
Potty breaks every 0-2 hours

Safety, trust & environment

Typically, I stay overnight in my client's homes when they are out of town. I closely read and adhere to all instructions provided. If at all possible, I'll stick to the same routine that your pet is used to. I tend to error on the side of caution when encountering other dogs or people and avoid interactions until I know the pet well and know how they'll react.

Pets

A typical day

I go on daily walks around my dog friendly neighborhood or local parks, often with dogs that I'm taking care of. I am extremely active and love to get outside. Otherwise, I'm happy playing fetch, tug-of-war, or whatever activity your pet is into. I think going on walks or otherwise getting pets moving is the best way to keep them happy and healthy.
