We spend a lot of time at home, especially outside taking care of our land and animals. We both have flexible work schedules, and one of us works from home every day so chances are very high that someone is home at least 90% of the time.

Safety, trust & environment
We have 2+ acres of fenced in yard, primarily privacy fence. Our four year old daughter helps us take care of a Bluetick Coonhound and a Bloodhound, as well as chickens, ducks, and the best pest control around in the form of the sweetest small black cat. There's an open porch with a fan and a 1000 SQ ft deck with locking exterior doors and fans for our dogs to hang out in on a nice day or when it's raining. We play with our dogs in the yard as well as leading them on walks. We feed them twice a day, provide plenty of water, and toys. Dogs are welcome inside and sleep in dog beds, but are not allowed on furniture or the bed. We prefer visiting dogs to sleep in a crate but not required. To keep our dogs happy and balanced we treat our dogs like dogs, as members of the pack, and we (humans) are the pack leaders. We lead them in walks/exercise, provide disciplined games/play/training, and give them plenty of affection.

A typical day
8AM- We start the day around 8 with a potty break and some sniffing time in the yard. We usually let the pups decide how long they want to be outside up to about 20 minutes. For high energy visitors we can use some of this time to play a sniffing game or a quick game of fetch. 8:45- Next we go inside and have a group breakfast. Each dog has their own feeding station and must sit nicely and perform a trick for their breakfast. Usually this is just to practice delayed gratification, sit, and focus, but it can also be an opportunity to do some brain work if needed. 9- 12 After breakfast the dogs can settle in the office with me while I work, or they can lounge on the covered porch if they are so inclined. 12pm- Around noon we take another trip outside. Our dogs mainly like to sniff, but for guests we can also have a quick game of fetch, tug, or a sniffing challenge. 12:30-1pm- After about 30 minutes we move back inside and visitors can choose to follow me around the house as I make lunch or hang out with a chew toy in any of the dog beds available on the first floor of the house. 1-5pm- For the next few hours we are back to lounging in the office or covered porch. Our house hounds will sleep straight through until 5 but we can sneak in another 15 minute break for any visitors that can't go 4 hours between potty breaks. 5:00- More outside time! This is when I do chores for the chickens and ducks. The dogs can roam the yard on their own at this point or choose to accompany me if they can handle not killing anything. For our high energy visitors we would include another game at this point to get some energy out, however in most cases we try to focus on more brain games going into evening, like hide and seek. 6pm- we would come inside between 5:30 and 6 depending on the day and the need, but by 6 the rest of the family is home. The pack can roam the first floor as we get settled, do chores, and get ready for dinner. Usually there would be some interacting with our 4 year old or lounging on the available dog beds. We do have toys available, but visitors may be asked to play with them in their crate if they display possessiveness with the toys. 7:30- Dinner time is just like breakfast. Each pup must sit, wait, and do a trick for their dinner, which will be eaten in a separate room from the family. Guests will eat in their crate because this meal is not supervised. The dogs will hang out on their own the office or crate while the family has dinner to ensure no one sneaks table scraps or other contraband. 8:30- We begin bed time routines after dinner. Our toddler will go upstairs first and the pups get one last 15 minute potty/sniffing break while we clean up and do other bed time chores. 10:00- Our house hounds will put themselves to bed after their potty break, but everyone will move upstairs after clean up and settle in a dog bed in the master bedroom until we start the morning routine. If any visitors prefer to sleep in their crate, they will go to the crate in the office at this point.

Pet care experience
My wife and I have taken care of dogs and other animals for over 50 years combined. We have experience training dogs, raising and leash training puppies, helping friends address issues with their pets when asked, fostering and rehabilitating abused dogs. We've taken care of numerous elderly dogs and dealt with the hard decisions that come along with that. We are a happy, balanced pack and ensure all dogs, even if just visiting, are welcomed properly to become a part of our pack.

Robert and Ana took great care of our dog Scout! She had a great time running around their huge backyard.
