"The Best Westie" @ SaltWater Park
The Best Westie is a welcoming family home where your pooch will feel comfy and loved while you're away. We specialize in small- medium dogs. Our fenced yard is a great place for your dog to safely run around and get fresh air, with lots of woodsy smells from nearby Saltwater Park and the beach. Located 15 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes from I-5, drop-off and pick-up on your way out of town can be very convenient. Our college age children are mature and loving pup hosts as well, when they are home; they are an extra set of eyes for safety, attention and play. We only host dogs who are family- and pet-friendly. We love to send daily photos to keep you updated on your pet's stay. Why I love dog sitting I am a life-long dog lover, and my first jobs were pet sitting for neighbors, sometimes up to a month, entrusted with their homes, dogs and cats as a youngster. In recent years I've returned to dog-sitting in our home for friends. It's a pleasure to create a “boutique” boarding experience for furry family members with cozy rugs and blankets, free range in the yard and ample varied outdoor experiences, including daily neighborhood walks on beaches and trails. Dogs are amazing companions who bring much joy. We understand that your dog is a special family member and we will care for your pet with the utmost respect and concern for his/her wellbeing. We want your pup to have a true vacay while you're away. Meet my pets Our Westhighland terrier Luna is loving and friendly, a healthy senior dog now. She has been around many different dogs, is used to sharing and is a very chill K9 host. She especially enjoys walks with our doggy guests, and lively squirrel barking and chasing together. We also have a young corgi boy named Neville with lots of energy. He loves walks and play. Because of his youth and enthusiasm, we use baby gates to separate him from older and less excited guest dogs. Our dog Luna appreciates the separation as well! About my yard Our yard has terrain variety, trees, squirrel activity, lots to keep a dog busy. Our dog is always patrolling and running around, when not napping. Security is a high priority for us, thus our fenced outdoor space has several different gates to close off areas and keep pets safe while providing ample area for fresh-air time. We are not overly particular about a little digging here and there; we expect dogs to be dogs. My experience administering medication I am comfortable administering oral medicine. I do not accept dogs with more involved medical issues. I want your pet to be in the most appropriate setting to have his/her health-needs met.

We couldn't be happier with our experience! Rikke and the family took such amazing care of Hayden at their home. They are always incredibly welcoming, making sure Hay felt right at home immediately. We received regular updates and photos, which gave us complete peace of mind while traveling. Our little man came home happy and tired out from all the playtime. Highly recommend!

Schedule
I work part time during the school year but various family members are almost always home to supervise and be a companion for your pup. (This includes my husband and our young adult college age children.)

Safety, trust & environment
We have a fenced yard with several different gates to provide security and to separate dogs if needed. Please bring your crate if your dog is crate trained. We do not kennel pups but separate if needed into different areas of the yard and house. Occasionally we will host 5-6 pups but that is our max and not typical.
Pets
A typical day
Here's where we'll take our walks We usually do 1-2 daily neighborhood walks, and can adjust per the exercise need of your dog. There are trails and woods in the nearby state park... lots of opportunity to sniff for bunnies. Occasionally we drive to walk the beaches, five minutes away. And there's room to excercise in our yard. Your dog's sleeping arrangement Your dog can sleep wherever s/he wants for the most part. Let us know what's best for your pet and we'll see if we can accommodate. We want your pup to feel comfortable and at peace while you’re away. Time I'll spend with your dog Various family members are home throughout the day, in and out, plus our own dog, so your pet will have lots of company. We enjoy beach and trail walks right next to our home, as well as neighborhood strolls and yard play with the pup guests.
