Gentle Dog Daycare

Hi, I'm Rhonda Johnson, owner of Paws Pause with Rhonda — and dog mom to my pups, also known as my lazy old men: • Kofi — 8-year-old, little Yorkie • Snoopy (Kwame) — 8-year-old, gentle 70 lb Pitbull rescue I am a calm-energy caregiver offering short-stay care (2–4 hours), drop-ins, walks, and boarding for dogs who thrive in quieter, structured environments. I specialize in supporting dogs of all sizes, personalities, and comfort levels, especially those who need a gentle, decompression-focused approach. We know how to chill out in these parts! **PLEASE NOTE: I do NOT accept high energy dogs or puppies (dogs under 3 years old). This includes dogs who require constant stimulation, hourly activity, or high drive working breeds (Aussies, Heelers, Border Collies, etc.)** This keeps my home calm, safe, and supportive for the dogs who truly benefit from a decompression-focused environment. Shelter Experience I volunteer at the Guilford County Animal Shelter, where I work hands-on with: • anxious dogs • shut-down dogs • misunderstood breeds • sensitive pups I’m skilled in decompression, trust building, and reading stress signals, and I bring that same calm, structured approach into my home. My Care Style • calm, structured interactions • respect for boundaries and safe spaces • slow, thoughtful introductions • support for shy, anxious, or timid dogs • gentle reassurance for small rescues • confident handling for larger breeds (up to 80 lbs) My home is quiet, predictable, and ideal for dogs who don’t do well in busy daycare settings or overstimulating environments. What I Offer Full Day Doggie Daycare (WEEKDAYS ONLY) & Short Stay Care (2–4 hours) Perfect for dogs who need companionship, structure, and calm time without the overwhelm of full-day daycare. Short stays include sniff walks, decompression time, enrichment, rest breaks, and gentle supervision. Drop Ins Potty breaks, feeding, companionship, and calm support in your home. Great for puppies, seniors, or anxious dogs. Dog Walking (For all age types) Patient sniff walks or steady walks based on your dog’s energy and mobility. Boarding Overnight care in a quiet, stable home environment — ideal for sensitive dogs who prefer calm spaces over busy boarding facilities.

Rhonda is phenomenal with animals! She treats each pet as if they were her own and so much more! Her beautiful pitbull rescue was having a hard time adjusting in her home but with empathy and patience from Rhonda, he is now snoring away at home. She takes her time to get to know any pet she encounters and shares all the love she has. I would highly recommend her for any service she provides! ^_^

Rhonda is a great and very dependable dog walker and sitter for my sweet Shih-Poo “Bean”. Every time I go out out of town, I know I can depend on Rhonda to take great care of my fur baby. She’s always timely, and sends plenty of updates on his well-being, I can feel confident that Bean is happy when I’m gone, when he’s with Rhonda, I highly recommend and trust her.

Rhonda has walked my dog while at work for the last six months. I have noticed a difference in how obedient my dog is while walking since she started. It's always good to see her so excited to be walked so I know it's been a good experience for her.

These are very important for me to know before I care for your pup: Behavior & Personality Temperament (shy, anxious, fearful, easygoing) Comfort level with strangers Any known triggers (noise, other dogs, people, sudden movements) How they decompress when stressed Routine Feeding schedule Potty schedule Usual walk pace (slow sniff‑walks vs. steady movement) Preferred enrichment or comfort items Safety Leash behavior (pulling, reactivity, strength level) Any medical conditions or mobility concerns Medications or special instructions Crate use or safe space preferences The more I know, the better I can support your dog’s comfort, safety, and emotional well‑being — especially for rescues, anxious pups, or misunderstood breeds.
