Care & Training with Aloha

I have loved and trained our own Bernese Mountain Dogs (Germany and Belgium) for over 20 years, and fostered dogs (senior dogs, puppies, and Animal Control rescues) the past 3 years, sometimes taking in dogs who had no reason to trust humans, dogs that learned through our care that comforting routines and training through play helps them to trust again, and leads them to becoming more adoptable dog companions. I believe trust has to be earned with our dogs. Only then, will they let us care for them with love through routines they can count on. I look forward to continuing the routines you have already established with your pupper. I raised our dogs believing every day, every moment is an opportunity for training of basic dog citizen behaviors (come, sit, down, leave it, etc.) through active engagement and play, and daily walks and cuddles. Note: We still welcome in Foster dogs, and hope your non aggressive dog(s) will also be good pup ambassadors in interacting with senior dogs or other fosters.

Rene is a wonderful and caring person and is an outstanding candidate for a pet caregiver. Over the last 3 years that I’ve known her, not only has she had a very well-behave dog herself that knew a multitude of commands, she’s fostered over 8 dogs of different ages until they were adopted. Previously, she has asked my family to visit her foster dogs to help socialize them to be ready for homes with children and adults alike. Rene goes above and beyond when it comes to caring for people and pets in the community. She has been a leader in her community especially when it comes to pets by spearheading fundraising groups that also volunteered at fundraising events that supported local rescues and animal advocacy groups. Rene is also a very creative, organized and uplifting individual, and a delight to be around. When she has an idea or commits to something, she puts all of her effort, creativity, and resources into making the outcome successful. Out of all of the people I know in life, Rene is one of the most caring, giving, and genuine people I know. If you entrust her with the care of your pet, you can rest assured that she will pamper your pet beyond any expectation. She will treat your pet as one of her family members.

Rene is a responsible and loving pet owner and caregiver. She has owned and watched dogs most of her life, including both small and large sized-dogs. She's caring, follows care instructions, is communicative, and has deep experience with training dogs. She has watched my pets multiple times and they always loved when she'd visit.

Schedule

I work remotely part-time from home, and I am retired so aside from short trips away from the house for errands, I am here to care for your dog(s). With our own dogs, we held to a consistent schedule: a morning walk (7-ish), then breakfast, rest (to avoid bloat in large dogs), playtime several times per day in our fenced yard, and an afternoon walk, then dinner.

Safety, trust & environment

We have a fully fenced yard on 1/4 acre. Potty-trained dogs are welcome in the house and on some covered furniture. We have a 30ʻ deck with an outdoor couch and chairs with with rolling gates to the outer yard. We also have a smaller fenced area for dogs who prefer to be outside in cool shaded grassy areas. I specialize in large non-aggressive dogs. Most of these dogs do not like like to sleep in human beds; I welcome pet guests to bring their own large dog beds for their stays.

A typical day

Play and stimulating activities with Aloha matter for dogs! Here, besides leash walking and explorations in our peaceful neighborhood, dogs can count on games to engage them (hidden treats and puzzles, hide and seek, tasks to perform, 3-5 minute sessions to repeat a positive action like “leave it/take it”and “place or bed to stay” to reduce impulse behavior)

Rene & Bill can host up to 3 pets per night
I would like a (30 minute) Meet & Greet with your dog(s) at our home which will afford me time to understand their personality and behaviors and to learn of any specific needs from owners to determine if our place is a good fit for your dogs boarding with us. Note: I also still take in foster dogs from a local shelter. Your dog may be interacting with senior dogs or other dogs learning to be good dog citizens to increase their adaptability. All dogs are supervised at all times.
