Safety, trust & environment
Safety is my priority. I am aware of where the pets I care for at all times. Even when they are "good off leash," they will remain safe and secure under my care, valuing and honoring the safety and predicability of their typical routine all while developing/prioritizing earned trust (that I am constantly monitoring and attuned to the pup).
Information Rebecca L. would like to know about your pet
It's important for me to know what provokes uneasiness in your loved one, behavioral quirks, medical needs of course! Also, what brings them comfort, what makes them most happy, what their favorite games and activities are, their daily routine, etc. It's my priority to have all information to ensure I can cater my attention and energy into the relationship the dog needs to shine in their personality and feel secure and content.
A typical day
I am a major proponent of a balance of stimulation + rest, i.e. being outside for as much as possible (when this aligns with an animal's interest), so will gather as much information about the pup ahead of time accessing their preferences and exploring familiar and awaiting the new exploration of parks and trails unsniffed.

Pet care experience
Hi, I'm Rebecca and I lost my pet several years ago. I have visited several shelters, but I am not ready to take on another pet full-time, though since then, caring for others' dear ones has inspired me to begin fostering dogs and cats from local nonprofits. And taking a break from that to offer my hands and heart to you! I have missed having a pet to care for and interact with in my home for longer bouts of time! So before I started grad school, I felt inspired me to offer pet-care here on Rover! I began with boarding but have transitioned to caring for animals in the comfort of their own home. I am a licensed social worker now but when I was younger, one of my most enjoyable jobs I've had was working in a pet salon, bathing and grooming animals. I loved all my customers, and even the ones who were uneasy quickly learned to trust their paws and hair in my gentle hands (despite holding nail clippers and a detangling comb). One of my most favorite and simplest things to do were using my special brush to minimize shedding between appointments. This, among other things, is something I can offer while I sit with your pet. I have had animals all my life. First came dogs, then rabbits, then cats, and then reptiles! And then I went back to mammals. Their food was just a bit more easier to "administer!" I love the outdoors, as many pets do, so I will make it a priority to spend time in fresh air where there are limitless scents for your pet to experience. I take the dogs I look after to a parks whenever possibly (daily, at least!). I am passionate about finding new outdoor nose-stimulation, as engaging senses is very good for a pet's well-being! I also think it is very important to interact with pets and give them the full attention they deserve. Many of us have busy lives and our pets are left awaiting for a friendly, living friend to receive physical contact and interact with. I am committed to be that person! After losing my pet to diabetes, I naturally had a lot of regret wishing I had more time. More time to play, cuddle, etc. I have accepted that I cannot have that time back, but I can offer my time to other pets who otherwise would be alone/unstimulated or potentially in hands that are less passionate than mine.

Reviews

Rebecca was so kind, gentle and my pup got such good care while I was away. He has epilepsy., so I have been really picky on who I leave him with and often just opt to drive so I can take him with me! Rebecca was such a great communicator, clean, respectful and really responsible for feeding times and medications. He really took to her, which says a lot about who Rebecca is. I will definitely book them again.

Rebecca was wonderful. Detailed, helpful, and very communicative. This was my first time using Rover, at the last minute due to a family emergency. Our pup is young and I wasn't sure about leaving her, but Rebecca made everything easy and alleviated all of my concerns. I would hire her again in a heartbeat.

Rebecca was professional and reliable. However, her style did not very well match my dog, who is anxious, intense and considered "reactive". Based on her reports, Rebecca's effort to set boundaries and establish authority seemed to only escalate my dogs anxiety, distrust and dislike of Rebecca We will not be working together again.

Rebecca did a fantastic job sitting for our dog, Greta. She sent daily updates and photos, was home or out with her the majority of the time, and was very responsible. Our house was cleaner than we left it when we returned! Recommend.
