I work a very remote-friendly, flexible full-time job where I can take breaks throughout the day, so I can be home most of the day to keep your pet company and give frequent walks, potty breaks, and playtime. I spend up to half a work day in an office in Financial District 3 days a week (the specific days of the week are usually flexible), so I can only care for animals that are comfortable being independent for 4 hours at a time or more. I also anticipate needing to step out of the house for basic errands (e.g. grocery runs, appointments, meals). If they cannot be left alone that long, I can possibly sit them on a case-by-case basis, primarily dependent on whether I can arrange to work remotely or if it’s a weekend. If booking for less than a week, I can possibly arrange to work remotely to spend more time with your pet. My pricing policy for pets with separation anxiety/needing constant care is in the section below.

Safety, trust & environment

As someone who worked in film production and project management, I think all the time about safety and minimizing risk. I pay meticulous detail in following your pet's regular routine as closely as possible and keeping any foreign foods and hazards out of their access. When taking dogs out, I always make sure they are securely leashed and doors are locked. I never let them off leash outside and do NOT take them to any dog park due to the many associated risks. I will follow your instructions if you want to allow for very quick greetings with other friendly dogs in passing, or avoid them. I follow pedestrian walk signals and will be aware of our surroundings on busy urban streets. For indoor cats, I'm careful when opening and closing front doors to prevent any escapes. When I house-sit, since you are the expert of your home, please let me know of any other possible hazards to look out for. I send daily photo updates about your pet's activities and well-being, am proactive in communicating anything out of the ordinary, and am available by phone/text/app messaging.

Information Rebecca H. would like to know about your pet

I would like to know: - Daily care routine (feeding, walk, potty schedule/frequency) - Usual walking route and distance - Personality and temperament - Favorite activities and motivations (toys? treats? games? human attention?) - Any behavioral tendencies to look out for to either encourage or discourage - Any triggers, anxieties, or fears - In the summer or winter, are they sensitive to heat or cold? - Have they acclimated well to sitters/new human caretakers in the past? - Emergency contact and vet info - Any medication? I have experience administering a variety of medication types, but am only comfortable doing so if they are cooperative and don't try to run away, scratch, or bite, especially towards a new caretaker. - How long are they comfortable being left by themselves at home? Re-emphasizing from the previous section, because of my hybrid work environment, I would need to be away from them for up to 4 consecutive hours 3 work days a week. If they cannot be left alone that long, I can possibly sit them on a case-by-case basis, primarily dependent on whether I can arrange to work remotely or if it’s a weekend. (It would be helpful to have your pet's Rover profile with these details filled out to be able to easily refer back to- the more details, the better!) Note: I am not comfortable caring for pets that have a history of aggression. As our schedules allow, I would like to do an in-person meet and greet for new clients; this is extremely helpful for all of us. I’d love for your pet to have an initial positive association with me so that they've already met me by the time I come care for them. It's also helpful for me to see their temperament firsthand and know where their care supplies are located. Of course, you’ll be able to ask me any questions you have and make a well-informed decision about trusting me with your beloved pet. If we can't meet in person, my schedule is pretty flexible to do a video call. Additional potential charges for booking with me: (The majority of my past bookings have not needed these, but I've gotten so many of these kinds of requests in the years I've been doing Rover that I want to lay out my policies clearly upfront. Thanks for reading and understanding.) - My rates are subject to increase for clients requiring a higher degree of care including young puppies, high energy dogs, ill or senior pets needing frequent care/supervision, and pets with separation anxiety or needing constant care. Adult/senior pets with higher care needs akin to puppies are subject to the puppy rate. I assess constant/near constant care rates the higher of the puppy rate and $25/hour. One full overnight day of constant care: $400 + a food delivery stipend. Holidays +25%. - For any services needing me to arrive or leave 9pm or later, I charge at minimum a $60 additional fee to be used for ordering a cab/rideshare as a nighttime safety precaution. Subject to increase the later it gets in the night as fares are higher. Around/after 11pm: $100+. These rates take into account that my take-home pay after Rover fees and taxes is about 50-60%. Similar policy applies for extremely early morning arrival or departure. - Key pickup and drop off beyond 1 mile or 1 neighborhood away from me will be charged $50 each way for my time and fare; I would highly suggest using a lockbox, doing the key handoff in person when I come and leave, or leaving it with a doorman for me to pick up. - Please pay attention and narrow down the arrival and departure as closely as possible because I will plan my schedule around them. Any significant deviance may incur extra care time charges per Rover's extended care policy. New to Rover? Get $20 off when signing up and booking with this link: https://www.rover.com/sit/REBECAH8

A typical day

My goal is for your pets to feel as if you've never left by following their daily care routine in an environment that feels like home to them. I’ll give them the VIP treatment loving them as my own, engage them in play sessions and mental enrichment, and meet their daily exercise needs. As a dog owner myself for many years and from my experience doing dog boarding/daycare, I'm very used to tailoring my daily schedule to giving my and clients' dog(s) an enriching daily life and meeting their every need, so I'd similarly live with your pet(s) as if I am their temporary owner. 😊 Whether they enjoy being active through long walks and playtime, love snuggling next to a human for a cozy nap, or even if they're more reserved or independent in nature, I adapt to their personality and preferences! I'm patient and observant in reading animal body languages and signals, then adjusting my approach. I truly find joy in the simplicity of their company, from active play and cuddles to watching them adorably sleep. I’m also happy to keep up with their regular grooming routine, training reinforcement, and administer any other special care.

Pet care experience

Having grown up all my life with pets- hamsters, chinchillas, parrots, rabbits, cats, and dogs, I have deep reverence for the human-animal connection. Their impact on my life has been filled such love, healing, inspiration, and joy. When I was a kid, I would obsessively watch Animal Planet and read all of my library's books about pet care and training. I’ve helped rehabilitate foster animals and train my family dogs through advanced obedience classes, Canine Good Citizen test, and therapy dog training through positive reinforcement, mental enrichment, trust building, and having fun! My bonds with them have been some of the most fulfilling parts of my life. I've raised my pets throughout all their life stages, as well as helping care for friends', neighbors', and 100+ Rover clients’ pets, all of a variety of sizes, ages, breeds, temperaments, and special needs. I'd love the privilege to do the same for you. My dog Pearl is my cherished adventure buddy all across the east and west coast, but I too have trips I cannot take her on. I understand the stress and worry of finding care for your furry friends when those events arise, and I will strive the best I can to ease your and your pet's worries with quality care and communication, and treat them as I'd want mine to be treated. I'm available for house sitting in lower Manhattan, downtown Brooklyn, and downtown Jersey City (I will consider farther locations if your pet is comfortable with being independent for longer periods of time due to the longer commute time to my office in FiDi). I used to also do dog boarding and daycare services on Rover for 3 years before moving to NYC, but my current housing restrictions don't allow for that at the moment. I conduct all pet sitting services solo and do not bring other people or pets with me. I book one house sitting client at a time and do not currently offer other Rover services (dog walking, drop-in visits) to other potential clients, so I would be fully devoted to your pet(s). While I have my own dog, Pearl, my family takes care of her while I'm away, so I would not need to bring her. Note: The house sitting rate listed is for overnight sitting. Single-day/constant care house sitting will be charged a rate of $25/hour with a minimum of the overnight rate, plus an additional fee for late night departures (detailed in the section below). My goal is for your pets to feel as if you've never left by following their daily care routine in an environment that feels like home to them. I’ll give them the VIP treatment loving them as my own, engage them in play sessions and mental enrichment, and meet their daily exercise needs. I truly find joy in the simplicity of their company, from active play and cuddles to watching them adorably sleep. I’m also happy to keep up with their regular grooming routine, training reinforcement, and administer any other special care. I have experience administering oral and topical medication, raising young puppies from 8 weeks old, tending to the sensitivity of senior animals, and caring for animals with vision/hearing/mobility impairments. I can also help with any basic household upkeep like bringing in mail, watering plants, and laundering used sheets/towels. I value cleanliness and respect and will strive to leave your home in the same or better condition than I found it. "In Hawaiian, you don't call yourself your pet's owner. You are their kahu. Kahu has many meanings, among them: guardian, protector, steward, beloved attendant—basically, someone entrusted with the safekeeping of something precious, something cherished. What a Kahu protects is not their property. What they protect is a part of their soul." When sending a booking request, more advance notice has a higher likelihood of guaranteeing my availability. I can get booked many months in advance especially during holidays or peak travel seasons. I'm not guaranteed to be available on short notice, but feel free to inquire if my calendar shows I'm free.

Mookie had another wonderful weekend with Rebecca!! She is a gem. She took such good care of our little guy and left our home spotless. Mookie is a bit anxious but clearly feels so comfortable and happy in Rebecca’s care. She sent frequent updates, which always puts my mind at ease. She is our go-to sitter and I couldn’t recommend her more!

Rebecca is incredible! This was our first time having someone other than family and close friends watch Mookie Wilson and we couldn’t have been happier with Rebecca. She stayed in close touch with us throughout her stay, sending along photos and updates throughout each day, which was so appreciated. It felt like she truly cared for Mookie like he was her own. We came home to a very happy pup and it was clear she tended to all his needs so lovingly. She also left our apartment spotless and cared for our space well. We will rebook with Rebecca for sure and would recommend her to anyone.
