I’m currently in school part-time for acupuncture, and Rover fits really naturally into my routine. During the summer, the most I’m typically out of the house for is one in-person class a few days a week, usually around a 3–4 hour block, and several of my courses are online. I’ve found school and pet sitting balance very well together over the past few years. My lifestyle is pretty quiet and grounded — I’m usually happiest spending time outdoors, studying, reading, making tea, or taking dogs out on adventures. I genuinely enjoy having animals around as part of my daily rhythm. Walks before and after class are very easy for me to accommodate, and on my days off I love getting dogs out into nature for longer adventures depending on their personality and energy levels.

Safety, trust & environment

I primarily offer care in clients’ homes because I find most animals adjust much more comfortably in their own environment and routines. I settle into their rhythm pretty easily, and I try to make the transition feel as low-stress as possible while you’re away. I’m very respectful of both your home and your pet’s existing routines, boundaries, and training. Whether your dog sleeps in the bed (I welcome cuddles), needs medication, struggles with separation anxiety, has leash reactivity, or has specific routines around feeding or walks — I’m happy to work with what helps them best stay in routine while missing their favourite human! Before longer stays, I usually recommend creating a shared Google Doc with important information like routines, feeding schedules, medications, emergency contacts, favourite walking spots, sleeping preferences, quirks, commands, update preferences, or anything else that helps me care for your pet as smoothly as possible. It also makes future travel easier since you’ll already have everything written out for future sitters too. I also really value building ongoing relationships with pets rather than only one-off stays when possible. One of my long-term clients recently took a month-long trip home to visit family overseas — something they had talked about wanting to do since I first met them — and it genuinely meant a lot knowing they felt safe enough leaving their dogs in my care for that long. I intentionally keep my Rover schedule balanced so I can give each animal a lot of attention, presence, and care while I’m with them.

Information Rae C. would like to know about your pet

We’ll go over everything during our meet-and-greet, and I usually send a small intake form beforehand to make sure I fully understand your pet’s routines, personality, needs, and quirks. Things like: * medications or health concerns * reactivity, fears, or triggers * routines (feeding, walks, bathroom schedule, sleep) * favourite activities or comfort items * commands or keywords they respond to * update preferences while you’re away * emergency contacts * house routines or important info * counter surfing, “TP stealing,” or other funny habits (no judgment here) The more I know, the better I can make your pet feel safe, comfortable, and understood while you’re away. And if you’re new to Rover or nervous about leaving your pet with someone, that’s completely normal. I really try to make the experience feel collaborative, communicative, and low-stress for both pets and owners alike.

A typical day

Every animal is different, but most days usually include a mix of adventure, downtime, play, affection, and companionship. Mornings often start with snuggles, breakfast, and a walk — sometimes a relaxed neighbourhood stroll, sometimes heading to a nearby trail or forest depending on the dog and their energy needs. I love letting dogs properly explore and “be dogs” safely — lots of sniffing, movement, enrichment, and engagement rather than just rushing through a quick walk around the block. Afternoons are usually quieter while I study or do coursework, with breaks for walks, play, potty breaks, cuddles, or hanging out together. I’ve noticed many dogs get a playful little burst of energy later in the day, and I genuinely love engaging with them — tug-of-war, fetch, training reinforcement, or just quality time. I adapt a lot based on the individual animal. Some pets want constant affection and closeness, while others prefer calm companionship and space. I’m comfortable with both.

Pet care experience

I’ve been caring for dogs since I was 12 years old, when my brother and I saved up together to get a dog of our own, and I’ve now been on Rover for over 3 years. What originally started as a flexible and fun way to support myself financially quickly became something I found immensely rewarding. I really love getting to know each animal individually and building relationships with both pets and their people over time. Every Rover experience feels a little unique, and that’s something I value deeply. Over the years, I’ve cared for puppies, senior dogs, cats, reactive dogs, anxious rescues, multi-pet households, and even guinea pigs. I thrive caring for a few animals at once (caring for up to 7 pets in one house!), but also love a good one-on-one staycation with the King/Queen of the house! One experience that really stayed with me was caring for a very young puppy a few times a week over the span of several months — helping with training, routine, confidence-building, and supporting his owner as she adjusted to raising him on her own. It reminded me how much care and consistency can shape an animal’s sense of safety and trust. What sets me apart is that I don’t just “watch” pets — I genuinely enjoy giving them a good experience while their people are away. If your dog loves adventure, we’ll probably end up exploring trails, forests, beaches, or new walking spots together. I have a dog-friendly car and spend a lot of my free time outdoors already, so dogs naturally become part of my routine. Once trust and comfort are established, I’m very confident handling off-leash dogs in appropriate environments as well. I’m calm, attentive, proactive, and very tuned into animal body language. I’ve worked with many reactive or emotionally sensitive dogs and have a lot of patience and confidence with them. I understand that every animal is different, and I adapt to what makes them feel safest and happiest. Outside of Rover, I’m a yoga teacher, postpartum doula, and acupuncture student, and I think those paths have deeply shaped the way I care for both animals and people. I stay very grounded in stressful situations, communicate clearly, and genuinely care about creating a sense of ease. Over the years, I’ve only had a couple of emergency situations happen during stays, but I think those moments really matter. One was with an older cat who became suddenly very ill, and another was with a dog who became acutely sick from something he had gotten into before the owners left. In both situations, I stayed calm, kept the owners updated, coordinated with Rover and veterinary support, and focused on keeping the animals as comfortable and supported as possible until further care could happen. Thankfully, situations like that are rare, but they do happen sometimes — and I think it’s important to have someone caring for your pets who you trust to stay calm, communicative, and capable if life throws something unexpected our way. The dog I mentioned is currently one of my favourite repeat clients. :) I’m extremely communicative and happy to send as many updates, photos, and check-ins as you’d like. Some clients want a quick nightly update, others want photos throughout the day — I’m happy to meet you where you’re at. I also really value long-term relationships. Many of my clients now book me regularly throughout the year, and it means a lot to be someone they trust enough to fully relax while they travel.

Rae was so great. She provided lots of picture updates, was quick with communication, and went above and beyond to meet Louis’ needs. He is a shy dog with a history of reactivity, and he immediately warmed up to her. She also left my place in immaculate condition. I would highly recommend her for anyone’s pet care needs!

Rae is THE BEST. I can't even express how much we appreciated her care. Conan had some health issues and she handled it like a total pro keeping me up to date and informed the whole way through. Really going above and beyond. House was well taken care of and we will definitely be using her again.

Rae was great with both my dogs, she was happy to visit for a meet and greet and they both immediately took a shine to her. I felt very reassured to have her dog sit in my home a couple of days. Rae was happy to manage some more complex logistics, managing a hand over to a second dog sitter while I was away, also helped with watering our plants. She was great with communication and sending just the right amount of photos. I was impressed that she took them to Thetis lake for a lovely forest walk adventure. Thank you very much Rae :)

Our little Ollie absolutely loved Rae! It was remarkable! Rae was wonderful and sent many updates and photos throughout the day. She’s a very kind, friendly and warm person. The minute we met her, we knew Ollie was in great hands. Would highly recommend her to anyone who needs a sitter. Thank you! We’ll be in touch when we’re back in the area visiting.
