Pet care experience

Veterinary Professional & Pet Lover

I bring more than 20 years of professional experience in veterinary medicine and animal welfare, caring for pets and supporting the people who love them. My background includes veterinary hospital leadership and many years with the San Francisco SPCA, and I'm also Fear Free Certified. I have extensive experience with pets of all ages, personalities, and needs, including puppies, seniors, anxious or fearful pets, multi-pet households, medication routines, and pets who may need a little extra patience and attention. My Fear Free training helps me recognize signs of fear, anxiety, and stress and adjust my approach so each pet can feel as safe and comfortable as possible. My veterinary background also means I pay attention to the little things. I'm accustomed to noticing changes in behavior, appetite, mobility, energy, or overall wellbeing and communicating concerns promptly. Most importantly, I know how much trust it takes to leave your pet in someone else's care. I'll treat your pets like they're my own, follow their routines closely, and make sure you get plenty of updates and photos while you're away.

Rachel is wonderful! She takes such great care of my dog and always makes me feel comfortable knowing he’s in good hands. I really appreciate how she sends pictures and keeps me updated throughout his stay. Most importantly, my dog absolutely loves going with her, which says everything! I highly recommend Rachel to anyone looking for someone caring, trustworthy, and attentive to their pets.

Rachel is, without a doubt, one of the most naturally gifted and compassionate animal caregivers I have ever known. Her deep, lifelong love for animals shines through in everything she does, and her intuition with them is truly remarkable. Rachel is exceptionally trustworthy, kind, respectful, and responsible. You can always count on her to put an animal's safety, comfort, and well-being above all else. Whether she is caring for a high-energy pet, a shy rescue, or an animal with special medical needs, she approaches every situation with unwavering patience and professionalism. I recommend Rachel without reservation. Any pet parent would be lucky to have her, and any animal in her care is guaranteed to receive superior, loving attention. We absolutely love her.

I have known Rachel most of her life as her family were our neighbor when she was small. Her mother always had many pets as did I so I have seen her around pets a multitude of times. Rachel now watches my dog and I leave on vacation feeling 100% comfortable that my dog will be safe, loved and well cared for. Rachel is kind, patient and very experienced with animals. I couldn’t recommend her more highly as a dog sitter!

Schedule

My schedule is currently very flexible, which gives me plenty of availability for walks, drop-in visits, and pet sitting throughout the week. I'm available weekdays and weekends and can accommodate morning, daytime, and evening visits. I also understand how important consistency is for pets, so I'll do my best to keep their normal feeding, walking, medication, and bedtime routines intact while you're away.

Safety, trust & environment

With more than 20 years of experience in veterinary medicine and animal welfare and Fear Free certification, I'm very comfortable caring for pets with different personalities, behaviors, ages, and needs. When caring for pets in your home, I'll follow your instructions closely and treat your home with the same care and respect I'd want someone to show mine. I'll double-check doors, gates, leashes, and other safety details, keep your pet's environment clean, and provide detailed updates and photos so you always know how things are going. I know you're trusting me with two things that matter enormously—your pet and your home—and I don't take either responsibility lightly.

A typical day

Every pet is different, so I tailor our time together to what makes them happiest! For an active dog, that might mean walks, sniffing adventures, playtime, enrichment, and plenty of opportunities to get some energy out. For seniors or dogs who prefer a slower pace, I'm just as happy with leisurely walks, gentle play, and lots of companionship and cuddle time. For cats, I'll follow their lead. Some cats want playtime, enrichment, brushing, and lots of attention, while others are happiest with a quiet companion who respects their space. I'll make sure they have fresh food and water, a clean litter box, and plenty of opportunities for interaction on their terms. Whether I'm caring for a dog or cat, I'll follow their normal feeding, potty/litter box, exercise, and medication routines as closely as possible. My goal is for their time with me to feel less like being away from home and more like spending time with someone they know and trust.

I want to know all about your pet! Please share their normal routine, favorite activities, feeding schedule, medications, health concerns, allergies, and any behavioral quirks or special needs. I'd also love to know what they love—and what they don't—including fears, triggers, handling preferences, or situations that may make them uncomfortable. For boarding or daycare, it's especially important that I understand how your dog does with other animals and in new environments. The more you tell me, the better I can personalize their care, keep them safe, and help them feel comfortable while they're with me. There is no such thing as too much information!
