I’ll ask about feeding times, potty schedule, walks/exercise needs, sleeping preferences (crate trained vs. free roam), and any favorite toys, treats, or comfort items. I also like to know your pet’s personality and behavior—how they do with strangers or other animals, any triggers (thunder, fireworks, doorbells, etc.), and anything I should watch for while caring for them. If your pet has medical needs, I’ll confirm medications, allergies, and where everything is kept so I can follow instructions exactly. For safety, I’ll ask about leash/harness setup, door/gate security, off-limit areas in the home, and whether they can be off-leash in the yard. For cats, I’ll also confirm litter box care and whether they prefer playtime or more quiet company. Lastly, I’ll get your preferred update schedule, vet info, and an emergency contact so you feel fully comfortable while you’re away.

A typical day depends on your pet’s routine, but I always make sure they get the right mix of exercise, attention, and downtime. For dogs, that usually includes walks around the neighborhood, potty breaks throughout the day, playtime with toys (fetch, tug-of-war, or whatever they love), and lots of calm companionship in between. For cats, I’ll do feeding, litter box clean-up, and spend time with them based on their personality—playtime with toys, brushing, or just hanging out so they feel comfortable. I’m big on keeping pets on their normal schedule and I’ll send regular updates and photos so you always know how they’re doing.
