Rachel can care for
Availability
I currently work from home as an independent visual artist, so my schedule is very flexible and can be altered very easily. In the late afternoons, I typically go to the gym for 1-2 hours about 5x a week. On Wednesdays, I am out in Katy from 2:00pm-6:00pm, and on Sunday afternoons I am visiting family in Southeast Houston.

Safety, trust & environment
I take safety very seriously, so if your dog is apprehensive, fearful, aggressive, territorial, or reactive in any way, please don’t be afraid to be honest and let me know! I do not cast judgment on owners of pets with behavioral issues, but it is absolutely necessary for me to know what to expect from a dog that I have never met before. I have worked with reactive and fear-aggressive dogs in the past, many of whom were exceptional companions and some of my favorite clients. If you just got your dog from a shelter and don’t have enough history to know how it will behave with strangers, I may turn down the booking or be extra cautious about accepting your dog as a client. I want to ensure that your dog receives the best care from the most qualified person to meet their needs, stress and danger-free!
Information Rachel K. would like to know about your pet
I have no breed preferences (I love ALL dogs), but I have the most experience with Australian Shepherds and other herding dog breeds. I would like to know the dog's general demeanor around strangers, any behavioral issues, energy level (high, medium, low), any health related needs or concerns, and feeding schedule. Safety for all parties involved is my number one priority!
A typical day
I love going on long walks with dogs, especially with a dog that has a good heel and lets me set the pace. I’ll also give them opportunities for sniff-focused walks that stimulate their brains, as long as the sniffing doesn’t lead to them eating stuff they shouldn’t! When it’s too hot outside for a long walk, I will spend extra time providing your dog with enrichment activities and playtime, and lots and lots of scritches.

Pet care experience
Hey pet parents!! I’m back on Rover after working full-time in the corporate world for a few years, and I’m excited to get back into taking in some lovely new clients here in Houston! I have been pet-sitting on and off for about 15 years and have a keen interest in learning as much about animals as I can. I have also volunteered at local animal shelters for many years, and fostered many litters of kittens!! My favorite clients tend to be herding dogs (especially the Australian Shepherd) and cats! I am an independent visual artist who specializes in drawing animals, so if you are interested in commissioning me for a pet portrait, I am happy to provide you with additional information after you book me! :) I am extremely physically capable so I can go on long walks and intense play sessions that will leave your dogs satisfied and exhausted for the rest of the day. I also love to provide your pet with enrichment activities that will fulfill their psychological and emotional needs. With all that being said, I usually like to schedule a meet-and-greet with pets and their owners before I agree to sit for them. This is done in order to make sure that I am a good fit for both you and your pet’s needs and to get the details of the pet’s care completely understood. I also believe that the pet benefits from familiarizing themselves with the person who is caring for them, as it is less stressful on them. Please feel free to reach out. I usually like to respond within 24 hours of receiving a booking message.

Reviews

This was our first time booking with Rachel, and we will absolutely book her again! We reached out last minute when our regular sitter had a family emergency and had to leave town. She responded almost immediately, and was very open and receptive. We worked out the basic details quickly, and she came for a meet-and-greet within a couple days. While we were gone, she was amazing! She sent plenty of photos, gave our kitties plenty of love, and left detailed updates about what she did and how they were doing. And they loved her! I have nothing but good things to say about Rachel and how she cared for our little ones.

Rachel was incredibly sweet, professional, came over in person ahead of her booking to meet the pups, and obviously did such a great job, judging by her thoughtful visit notes and photos. I would absolutely use her again.

Rachel was great! Our cats are very shy but warmed up to her fast. She was very communicative, flexible, and overall a wonderful sitter to our babies (cats). Will definitely be reaching out to her next time I leave town.
Rachel is awesome and super reliable. Our pups love her and I would recommend her to anyone.
