I work as a contract freelancer other than Rover! I usually have a meeting or two during the day, and work online a lot! During this summer, I am expecting to be working on location more often - a few times a week I have work out of the house. Otherwise most of the time I am working from 'home' which makes me a great person for house sitting, especially with elder pets or pets that don't have other pets to play with! The longest I will be away is about 4-6 hours. If your pet is not able to be alone for 6 hours, I recommend finding someone else, just in case I am out that long. I have recently experienced some miscommunication with clients about what they expected, so please feel free to express directly what you and your pet needs, especially regarding schedule! :) A client of mine was unhappy that I went out to see friends during a house sitting, for example. Their feeding schedule and potty breaks were on time, but the owner did not think I would leave for a few hours and was suprised when I told them. I was also not aware they expected me not to leave! If I am unable to provide what you need, I will be honest with you and decline the request :)

Safety, trust & environment

I pay close attention to home security and like to know the owner's preferences for how they keep their house! I also like to know a backup emergency phone number, a vet number, and what behaviors I need to watch for in the case of a sick pet. I always ask about past troubles so if in the worst case, I can recognize medical issues right away. I have sat for many, many elderly pets and I'm happy to say none have ever had any struggles while I was there and administering medication has been a breeze! ** Please let me know ahead of time if you have a smart home, doorbell cameras, or security cameras in your home! I don't mind them, but I DO mind being recorded without knowing about it! If you have cameras inside the house, I will ask if we can turn them off during my stay depending on their location. Of course, outside security cameras should stay on, but I just don't feel comfortable sleeping/showering/eating breakfast in my pjs while being watched. Of course, you will be recieving photos and updates throughout the stay and will not be kept in the dark :) **

Information Rachel G. would like to know about your pet

Tell me about your pets! Do they love attention and lots of petting? Are they more laid back? Especially please let me know about discomfort behaviours to be looking for - a lot of pets can be scared of a new person and I want to make sure they feel comfortable with me! Lots of dogs go on one-day hunger strikes when their owner leaves, for example. If your pet has any medical or health issues that need attention, that's of course important for me to know about. I sometimes ask if I can arrive just a couple minutes before the owners leave the home for their trip. Even if we have met before, I have found that dogs especially feel more comfortable if I am already in the home with their owners, so they know I am a friend and not an intruder! I have noticed when I don't do this, it can take a few hours for some pups to be fully comfortable with me or even a few days. When I do, they are already comfortable from the beginning! I might ask to do this if it's our first time booking together. Cats of course, are a bit tougher to crack and depends on their personality a lot more. ♡

A typical day

Everything depends on the pet's needs! Some dogs love a quiet evening inside, cuddling and watching a film, but some need to get outside and stretch their legs! I always get outside in the mornings for some sunlight so we usually go out together for a walk or potty break at least! Of course I stay inside most of the time to work, but I can and do take breaks every hour or so, whenever I need to give our friends playtime in a park or in the yard! Thanks to my flexible schedule pups can have more freedom. I tend to avoid dog parks until the dog and I are more comfortable with eachother. Safety first! A lot of clients have mentioned that I bring a 'calming' energy to their pets, and I have even heard that they have never seen their dogs calm down so quickly with someone before! I have noticed over time that high energy working dogs and I don't do as well together, except when they have a lot of space to run around. I might be too chill for them... maybe they want to herd me around! Shepards, retrievers and sheep dogs, for example, tend to get frustrated with me, and more excitable, instead of relaxing. If you know your dog is very high energy, I might not be the best fit.

Pet care experience

I have been working on Rover for over five years now! Growing up in South Dakota, I had experience with pets of all kinds, from dogs and cats, to horses, cows, pigs, ect! I grew up with two boxers and helped deliver a litter or two. I've also worked as a ranch hand seasonally, so I'm very comfortable with animals of all types. I almost became a Zoologist! In the end, God had a different plan, but along the way I had a variety of different pets. Frogs, snakes, different types of rodents, and I was always the person people called to help take care of their pet family when they left town! Now with having worked in Atlanta, Baltimore, Kansas City, Tampa FL, South Dakota, and D.C., I can confidently say you can trust me and rely on me for your pet and home care!

Great communication! Felt so comfortable leaving our kitty in her care! Osiris was immediately accepting of her during the meet and greet which was the biggest green flag ever. Thanks again so much! Rebooked already :)

Rachel is a great sitter. She stepped in at the last minute and took great care of my hyper-beagle and very scared kitty. I felt very relieved leaving them and my house with Rachel.
