Evening + Weekend Dog Walker

*Rover recently increased their fees from 20% to 30%, which has led to an increase in prices* I consider all pets members of the family worthy of respect, love, and attention, and will treat your pet as if they are one of my own. Dogs: I’ve taken care of dogs since I was 11. My last dog (Mango) was a rescue with lots of energy and excitement that I potty trained and frequently walked. Cats: Because I am slightly allergic, I don’t have a cat of my own, but I do think that it’s true that cats like those who are allergic the most! I previously lived with two of a roommate’s cats. My approach with cats is to give them space and let them come to me, moving slowly and quietly not to scare them off. Once they get more familiar with me, we play with a string toy, and maybe have cuddles or pets. I always clean out the litter box, and make sure that there is fresh food and water.

Safety, trust & environment

The approach to walking a dog starts with knowing the dog, what they might react to, the pace they like to walk at, whether they prefer walking in grass or on concrete, if they pull or are working on any training I can reinforce, etc. I also make sure to avoid any standing water, other dog feces, broken objects, or food that might be on the floor in a city. I am happy to socialize dogs if the pet parent prefers, but will always make sure the other dogs are friendly, I have the other dog walker’s permission, and there is enough space. I’m also happy to take friendly dogs to the dog park on request. My last dog, Mango, was a rescue and pulled a lot when she started going on walks. She was around 40 pounds but I always made sure to walk her safely by checking that her harness was on correctly, and having a good grip on the leash (sometimes wrapping around my hand twice) but also treating Mango gently and giving her enough leash room to explore all the sights and smells of the outdoors! Mango was very friendly with other dogs so I always made sure to ask if it was ok for her to say hello. Mango also had hip dysplasia, so I always looked out for signs that she was getting tired or her hips were hurting. I’ve walked large, reactive dogs and know to strategically adapt the route to avoid other dogs while providing words of encouragement to the reactive dog. I’ve also walked dogs who like to jump, and have tricks for kindly discouraging that behavior.

Rachel really does try to go above and beyond where she can. She was incredibly communicative throughout the whole process, including accommodating times and key drop offs. Will be rebooking again if I need someone to walk Nova!

Rachel was wonderful with Melo! She was attentive throughout his visit, kept me updated, and checked in about any special care he might need during his walk. She fed Melo afer his walk and gave him extra attention with pets after his meal - TY

Please let me know if you are working on any training I can reinforce, how your pup interacts with dogs or humans, if the pup is reactive to any stimuli on walks or prone to pulling, or if there are any health considerations I should be aware of. Also, please let me know your preference on interacting with other dogs and people. I am happy to walk puppies as long as they are up to date on vaccinations.
