Availability
I work on rotating shift patterns, which means my schedule varies week to week. However, I am often available on weekends and have mixed availability on weekdays, including mornings and evenings. I’m also happy to accommodate overnight sits where needed. Feel free to send a message with your dates. I’m always happy to check my rota and help where I can!

Safety, trust & environment
I understand how important it is for pets to feel secure in their own environment. When caring for your animal in your home, I follow a calm, welfare-first approach to minimise stress and maintain routine. Here’s how I ensure safe, consistent care: ✅ Routine Continuity — I follow your pet’s normal feeding, walking, medication, and enrichment schedule to keep them relaxed and settled. ✅ Health Monitoring — I’m trained to recognise early signs of discomfort, illness, or stress, and I keep a close eye on appetite, behaviour, toileting, and mobility. ✅ Hygiene — I maintain high standards of hygiene, including handwashing, safe food handling, litter tray cleaning, and appropriate waste disposal. ✅ Medication Confidence — I’m comfortable administering tablets, liquids, topical treatments, and special diets as prescribed. I can also administer subcutaneous injections if your pet often requires insulin or similar. ✅ Safe Handling — I use gentle, low-stress techniques tailored to species and personality, especially for nervous or reactive pets. ✅ Secure Environment — I double-check doors, gates, and enclosures and ensure leads, harnesses, and housing are fitted and used safely. ✅ Behaviour-Aware Approach — With developing training in animal behaviour, I know how to read subtle cues and adjust interaction to keep pets comfortable. You’ll receive updates, photos, and quick communication throughout, so you always know how your pet is doing.

Vet Nurse and animal obsessed (shock!)
Pet care experience
Hello! I’m Pilar, a Student Veterinary Nurse currently training at Vets for Pets. I have over two years of professional experience working with animals, including dogs, cats, small furries, and a wide range of exotics in a clinical setting. Through my veterinary work, I am keen to specialise in animal behaviour, particularly in dogs. I have begun training alongside a qualified behaviourist, and I currently run puppy classes and behaviour clinics at my practice to support owners in positive training and socialisation. I also run the practice’s social media, showcasing education, enrichment ideas, and behind-the-scenes care… I will get your pet’s best angles! Before my career change, I graduated from Queen Mary University of London with a Master’s degree in Translation, and I’m able to speak French and Spanish… I’m working on speaking dog and cat 😂 Outside of work, I volunteer with the RDA (Riding for the Disabled Association), supporting horses and riders and gaining more hands-on experience with animal behaviour and welfare. At home, I share my life with two cheeky terriers, Alba and Frida, and I’ve previously owned guinea pigs, hamsters, and rabbits, so I understand the individual needs of small companion animals as well. Your pet’s safety, comfort, and happiness are my top priorities. Whether it’s walks, medication support, training guidance, or simply playtime and cuddles, I’m here to provide professional, reliable, and compassionate care.

Reviews

Pilar stayed in our house for a week to sit for my cat (this is our second booking with Pilar) and, as I knew it would be, everything was fine . Bibi is old and ill and needs medication to be given twice a day so it's not the easiest of sitting jobs. Pilar is entirely trustworthy and it's very reassuring to be able to go on holiday knowing that the cat will be OK. Pilar sent us various photos and messages which helps too. I would recommend Pilar strongly and have already done so to a neighbour with another old ill cat. (Pilar! Apologies for the delay in reviewing. I'd forgotten I'd opted out of the email alerts from Rover so didn't get the reminder) - best wishes, Felicity

When I met Pilar for a coffee, I knew straightaway we could trust her with our cat & the keys to our home. She’s kind and very easy to be around - and our cat took to her quickly. We got daily updates and our cat, despite it being a heatwave, was cuddled up to her and purring. She left our house clean and tidy too - even watered our plants in the heatwave. I’d recommend Pilar to anyone and will definitely be working with her next time we go away

Pilar is fab and spent the day looking after Leo. Pilar sent us lots of updates and photos of Leo having the best time which was great and made us feel at ease. Pilar went above and beyond for Leo and even stayed more than the agreed time that so Leo was looked after up until we got home. Couldn’t recommend enough, thank you!

Pilar was so lovely and was fantastic with Leo! She provided us with lots of updates and photos which we loved. Thank you 🤍
