Safety, trust & environment

I live with my partner in an end-terrace house, with a secure back garden, on a quiet street in Prestwich, located just a few minutes walk from Heaton Park and Prestwich Clough. My main aim is to keep your pet safe, healthy and entertained. Plenty of exercise and playtime, squirrel chasing, hedgehog sniffing or just lazing around in the house, or in the sunshine (time of year and Manchester weather permitting). The best way to dicuss requirements in detail, evaluate personal interaction, and establish good communication, is through a meet & greet at either my home or your property (depending on whether your booking is for boarding or house-sitting), but any method for an initial meeting will be considered. I am, of course, able and happy to administer any medication if required. My experience with senior and less-abled dogs means that I can give peace of mind to owners of animals with special requirements (mobility issues, medical conditions, etc). Every dog is different, so I ensure that their experience is enjoyable, safe and customised to their individual routine in order to guarantee they are as comfortable and content as possible.

Information Phil R. would like to know about your pet

Information about any behavioural issues, especially socially, associated with other dogs, animals, children, etc, is essential and greatly appreciated in advance of the booking date. This includes their level of reaction to people, environment and unfamiliar/loud noises (vehicles, noisy environments, fireworks, etc). Open communication and honesty is integral to a good experience for all involved.

A typical day

Activity and attention are the most important things. Playing with balls, frisbees and tug-ropes outside, roaming nature trails, woods and parks, plenty of fuss and home comforts, socialising and spending all day with company and stimulation; or alternatively, peaceful strolls and quiet downtime, depending on what your dog requires; whatever it takes to make their time in my care a positive and enjoyable experience. I ensure that your dog's routine and habits (walks, feeding, sleeping, behaviour and house rules) are followed as closely as possible to the ones you provide. I will always insist on meeting beforehand to make sure I am fully informed on every aspect.

Pet care experience

For as long as I can remember I've been surrounded by animals, especially when growing up (on a farm, in a country pub). I spent my youth working at my family's rural dog-boarding kennels, caring professionally for dogs of all ages, breeds, sizes and temperaments, as well as cats, birds and the odd rodent that needed holiday accommodation; Not to mention the horses, goats, sheep, hens and geese that go along with growing up on a farm. This foundation combined with, more recently, personally owning a rescue dog and looking after friends' pets, has given me over twenty years experience in caring for all types of animals, especially dogs. I also have a reputation for very happily boarding larger breeds of dogs (XL Bull-Terriers, Dobermans, Rottweillers, etc) which other dog-sitters may be less inclined to accept bookings for.

Phil was brilliant with Zara from the off, who relaxed straight away in his home. He kept us updated on how she was doing throughout and gave us peace of mind about Zara’s wellbeing. 100% recommend Phil and Zara can’t wait for her next night over.

Another fantastic booking with Phil, always leaves the house spotless and I have no worries at all leaving Rory with him. Phil takes the time to get to know your dog and routines and I know Rory will always be well looked after. Keeps you updated on how they are getting on and really puts your mind at ease!

Phil was fantastic from the very first meeting through to the moment I picked Ziggy up. He was friendly, flexible, and clearly dedicated to making sure our dog was as comfortable as possible while we were away. He took the time to ask plenty of questions and learn everything about ziggy’s routine and needs so he could care for him properly while we were away. It was really important for us to find a trustworthy and experienced sitter, especially as Ziggy is an XL Bully who’s dog reactive, so that can sometimes make it harder to find the right person. Phil immediately put us at ease with his experience and confidence around dogs, and I felt that Ziggy was in very safe hands. While we were away, Phil kept us updated regularly with messages, photos, and videos, which gave us great peace of mind and allowed us to fully relax on our trip knowing he was happy and well looked after. When it came to collecting, I had some unexpected car trouble, but Phil was understanding and flexible, which I really appreciated. Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. It was reassuring to know Ziggy was being so well cared for, and I’ll definitely be reaching out to Phil again if we need a sitter in the future.
